Outlander: Blood of My Blood has expanded Diana Gabaldon's fantasy universe on Starz. Claire and Jamie's parents' love stories in the prequel series are as exciting and filled with obstacles as theirs.

In the prequel, several moments highlight how closely Claire and Jamie reflect their parents. From Claire’s courage and determination to Jamie’s loyalty and respect, each trait is a legacy passed down from Henry-Julia and Ellen-Brian. The series also enriches our understanding of Jamie and Claire by revealing the source of these peculiar habits.

The rich world-building in Outlander also proves that Jamie and Claire’s strength as characters comes not only from their own choices but also from the legacy passed down by their parents.

Here are 5 moments from Outlander: Blood of My Blood that prove this.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood: 5 moments that prove Jamie and Claire are their parents' reflection

When Julia and Henry time-traveled

This moment from Outlander: Blood of My Blood was surely monumental and revoked the canon about Claire's parents from the parent series. Julia and Henry's time-traveling adventure not only confirmed that Claire inherited this trait from them, but their experience was highly reminiscent of that of their daughter.

After Julia and Henry were tragically separated in 18th-century Scotland, they adapted and were forced to survive in the past. While Julia was taken in as a maidservant at Castle Leathers, Henry became Clan Grant's bladier. Their resilience and ability to adapt were certainly passed down to Claire, who also had her time-traveling experience in Outlander and was brought in as a Sassenach (and English woman) to Castle Leoch.

When Brian stood up for Julia at Castle Leathers

This one scene from Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 2 was highly reminiscent of Jamie Fraser from the parent series. Jamie not only mirrors his father’s sincerity and innate goodness but also upholds his most vital trait, a deep-rooted righteousness.

In Episode 2, when Julia tries to sneak away from Castle Leathers and is caught, Brian heartily accepts Simon's punishment on her behalf and is brutally whipped by his servant. This was highly reminiscent of Outlander, when Jamie took a similar whipping to protect a 'lassie' in Season 1. Their sense of honour and respect towards women mirror each other.

When Julia spiked Lord Lovat's food

While Julia is not a healer in Outlander: Blood of My Blood like her daughter, she knows enough about plants and herbs to survive in the past. Her quick thinking and resourcefulness are traits that Claire certainly adapted in Outlander. Recently, Julia not only helped Ellen pass her virtue examination with a homemade mixture, but also used a wild seasoning pepper to spike Lord Lovat's food. These instances scream Claire's mother!

Like her mother, Claire was also quick to use potions and herbs to her benefit. In one instance, she used valerian root in a sleeping potion to escape from Leoch.

When Ellen chose true love over Clan politics

While Jamie is the literal embodiment of Brian in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, he does take some traits from his mother as well. After a chance meeting with Brian at The Gathering, Ellen was head over heels in love with him. While her brothers have already arranged her marriage with Malcolm Grant, she continues to defy them. Ellen even took a bold step and handfasted herself to Brian, following which they consummated their love.

Ellen's choice to marry for true love is highly reminiscent of Jamie's love for Claire in Outlander. While their marriage was initially circumstantial, Jamie had always loved Claire. He married her, despite knowing the harrowing consequences behind this decision. Even when Claire was suspected of being a spy and viewed as an outsider by his clan, Jamie continued to love her, mirroring his mother's love for Brian.

Henry's endless search for Julia

If Claire got her resourcefulness and curiosity from Julia, she certainly got her courage and determination from Henry. Julia and Henry were tragically separated in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but Henry never gave up his search for his wife. Henry's trust and belief in his love were enough to motivate him to go forward, and he was finally rewarded in Episode 8.

Claire inherits Henry’s determination and can-do spirit, qualities that shine through time and again in Outlander. When Jamie was initially kidnapped by Black Jack Randall, Claire's endless search mimicked her father's, and she eventually found and saved her husband from the brute.
