Supernatural, an American television series that aired for 15 seasons (327 episodes) from 2005 to 2020, was developed by Eric Kripke. The show centers on Sam and Dean Winchester, brothers who hunt ghosts and demons, among other supernatural creatures.

Supernatural was originally supposed to run only for three seasons, but because of its popularity, it was extended. Filmed mostly in Vancouver, the series became the longest-running live-action fantasy program in the United States.

Inspired by American road trip tales and urban legends, Kripke developed the idea for almost a decade. The last episode of Supernatural Season 15, "Carry On," aired on November 19, 2020, marking the conclusion of the Winchester brothers' 15-year-long adventure.

Top 5 reasons why Supernatural season 16 is a bad idea

Supernatural season 16 hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but strong hints from cast members and fan events suggest a revival could be possible. Here are some of the main reasons why Supernatural season 16 is a bad idea:

1. The main actors have moved on

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who played Sam and Dean Winchester, are currently working on different projects. Jared starred in the sitcom Walker, and Jensen has a big role in The Boys. Both performers have established strong careers outside of Supernatural and appear to be dedicated to their new projects. Returning to the series would involve a significant time commitment and may interfere with their present duties.

2. The story has a clear ending

Supernatural ended with a powerful and significant ending after 15 seasons. Fans were given a gratifying finish as the key characters' tales were concluded. Sam's narrative depicted him carrying on with his family after Dean's adventure ended amicably. A new season might feel needless or forced, and it runs the danger of reversing this closure.

3. Few fresh story ideas remain

Supernatural explored a wide range of supernatural topics and characters, including angels, devils, and otherworldly entities. By the end, it got more difficult to discover new stories that seemed unique and engaging. Continuing the series without good concepts may reduce the show's quality and credibility.

4. Spin-offs have not been successful

The Winchesters, a prequel on Sam and Dean's parents, was released on the CW network. The show's dismal ratings led to its cancellation after just one season, despite some initial enthusiasm. This implies that viewers have less desire to see the Supernatural universe grow without the original cast.

5. Protecting the show’s reputation

Supernatural has a devoted following and a lengthy history. However, creating further seasons only for nostalgia's sake might detract from the show's overall reputation. A new season might not live up to fans' expectations since the quality of later seasons was lower than that of the first ones. Maintaining the show's positive legacy is facilitated by leaving it intact.
