Many factors contribute to TV shows' success, like actors, writing, directing, but sometimes the location plays a big role as well. A scenic location can influence how viewers experience the show and can have such a strong emotional impact that viewers will remember the setting long after they have seen the actual episode.

Many people begin to search for the actual location where the show occurred after they have seen it, and some even plan their holidays to the location. Several TV shows have caused real cities, towns, beaches, forests, and castles to become popular with fans by repeatedly showcasing them on screen.

Today, we are going to explore five such TV shows. Each of these had different locations, using historic sites in some, ordinary towns in others, and naturally beautiful locations in a few. No matter what kind of places were used, the physical setting for each of the five shows was important in establishing the mood and the atmosphere of the show, and fans will associate them almost as strongly as characters in the show.

Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Lost: Places that became part of the TV shows

The locations were as gorgeous as the characters and drama that most fans remember when thinking of Game of Thrones. Croatia's ancient city of Dubrovnik served as the base for King's Landing. The amazing coast and the tall stone walls, as well as the maze-like roads of Dubrovnik, gave the scenes a very authentic quality. Consequently, numerous fans today have taken vacations to Dubrovnik because of what they saw in the series.

Other places in the series were shot in Ireland, Spain, and Iceland, and each provided a different atmosphere to the series. The powerful visual effects made the series seem epic and historical while contributing significantly to the series' landscape.

Another TV show that used its locations very well is Stranger Things. Even though Hawkins is a fictional town, the actual filming mostly took place in Georgia, near Atlanta. The show used real schools, malls, roads, houses, and forests. These familiar places gave the series a very real small-town feeling, which made the story about strange events even more effective. Fans still visit places like the old mall, the school building, and certain streets where important scenes were shot.

Another series that utilized its environment extensively was Lost. The show was filmed in Hawaii on the O'ahu island. The combination of the beaches, jungles, and open spaces created the perfect environment for a show based around individuals stranded on an unknown island.

The visual splendour of Hawaii has become, for many fans of the show, as memorable as the characters themselves. Depending on the direction of narrative within the episode, Hawaii's environment could appear tranquil, menacing, or anything between. In each episode, the environment influenced the narrative in a significant way.

Sex and the City and Downton Abbey- cities and castles that shaped the mood of the TV shows

Sex and the City almost positioned New York City as a character in itself. It is among those TV shows that utilized the actual streets, cafes, parks, bridges, and buildings. People who watched the show could easily identify Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Carri's iconic apartment steps.

Another TV series, whose setting was a significant factor, is Downton Abbey. Most of the production was done at Highclere Castle, England. The majestic building, extensive gardens, and ancient rooms were the features that gave the series its unique visual appeal. It was the location that helped the early 1900s come alive and made viewers feel as if they were peeping into real history.

Fans of the show frequently go to the castle to see where the characters lived and where the story unfolded. Besides the village locations, the railway areas that were taken into use for filming, made the world complete.
