He did not come from a film background; he grew up in Yonkers. Speaking to The New York Times, he revealed that he was only 4 years old when he watched Will Smith's film Men in Black, he noted,

"I can't fully explain it. It's one of the biggest moments of clarity I've ever had and it's at 4."
