The Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry, premiered in 1966 with Star Trek: The Original Series and since then has become a pop culture phenomenon. With numerous new stories and characters, the Star Trek lore has been expanding since then.
Over many decades, many new Starfleet captains have emerged, who, with their different stories, captured the fans' hearts. From Captain Kirk to Captain Jean-Luc Picard, these individuals led their crews on different adventurous missions, faced challenges where some had to sacrifice their lives, and made a mark on the franchise. One of these Captains is Captain Christopher Pike. While introduced briefly in the original series, Pike is one of the major characters in Star Trek.
The Enterprise Captain, before Kirk, has been portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter, Bruce Greenwood, Sean Kenney, and, most recently, Anson Mount. While putting the lives of his crew before himself, Captain Pike also showed courage in the face of the painful future ahead for him. We have also seen Pike’s dedication to keep his crew’s morals up with his encouraging quotes and the lengths he is ready to go to keep them safe.
Here’s a list of 7 of Captain Pike’s best quotes from Star Trek that prove why he is regarded as one of the best captains.

The crew tries to transport the survivors to the Enterprise while fighting with the Gorn.
This puts Christina Chong’s Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh in a complicated position as she is also a survivor of a Gorn attack. Later, La’an, with the help of Spock, relives her experience with the Gorn to fight back in the current attack.

The episode titled "Through the Valley of Shadows" finally shows us the moment Captain Pike decided his painful fate ahead. In the episode, Pike and the Discovery crew go to the planet of Boreth, where in an ancient Klingon temple, they could find time crystals which they might use to send the sphere data to the future, safeguarding it from Control.
As Pike visits the temple, the head monk, Tenavik, gives him an ultimatum that if he survives watching a glimpse of his future, he can take the time crystal with him. Pike agrees and encounters the horrific accident in the future, where, while trying to save the cadets, Pike’s body gets burned, and he finds himself disfigured and sitting in a wheelchair. The site of it terrifies the Captain, but he still chooses to take the time crystal, even after Tenavik’s warning that if he takes the crystal with him, his fate will be sealed forever.

In Strange New Worlds, Captain Pike enters a phase of knowing about his horrific and painful future. However, the always positive and empathetic Captain hasn’t lost any of his charms and has become kinder as a human being.
After being prompted by Spock, Captain Pike gives a powerful and uplifting speech to the Kileans to decide if they want to end their lives by fighting each other or join the Federation of the planets. Captain Pike, now in the USS Discovery, gets to show the charming side of Christopher Pike, which makes him one of a kind. Pike served as a positive and strong influence for the Discovery crew in Season 2.
He says the above-mentioned quotes while he tries to encourage the crew before his first Spore jump after commenting on their spore drive and its ability to skip universes and reach its destination, in their case, a planet 51,450 light years away, which would otherwise take them 150 years to reach, that too in maximum warp.

While Spock speaks about it, referring to the boy, Pike quotes this dialogue, telling him that if it isn’t him, someone else would go through the same fate, and Pike would never let that happen.
