The White Lotus is a black comedy drama anthology series that is created by Mike White. The show has an outwardly luxurious sheen as each season revolves around a group of tourists, who spend a week at the titular luxury resort, which has branches in various countries. Therefore, each season involves a new location, a new cast, and some recurring characters and plots. However, underneath all this glamor, the show unveils the messy lives and hidden secrets of the guests and the staff of the resort. The show consistently pushes boundaries and the show therefore infuses black comedy, tragicomedy, and drama, to create jaw-dropping moments each season. In the show’s latest season therefore, there are a bunch of surprising moments. Here are 7 of them.

Greg's return, Rick freeing the snakes, and other jaw-dropping moments from The White Lotus season 3
1. Frank’s monologue

Not only are there plenty of surprising moments in The White Lotus season 3, but there are also some surprise cast members that make the scenes even more thrilling. Like Gries, Sam Rockwell was not announced as a cast member for season 3. Therefore, when the actor ended up portraying Frank in one of the scenes, it was a jaw-dropping moment. Further, Rockwell as Frank, delivers one of the most astounding monologues ever in the show. In episode 5 Frank lands up on the screen when Rick leaves the Thailand resort and decides to search for the man who killed his father. For this, he reaches Bangkok and enlists Frank’s help, who is Rick’s old friend. However, Frank immediately begins to showcase surprising behavior. Frank chooses to order tea at the bar and he then delivers a striking monologue. Sam Rockwell’s Frank reveals that he was at a low point in life when he arrived in Thailand and he indulged in a lot of casual s*x. However, these encounters led to Frank realizing that he wanted to be an Asian girl. Bizarrely and to Rick’s annoyance, Frank says that he found pleasure dressing up as a woman and having s*x with men. Eventually however, he turned to Buddhism.
2. Greg’s return

The first episode of The White Lotus season 3, has a shocking moment that would take the viewers unawares. The character of Greg is played by Jon Gries and most viewers of the show were unaware that the third season would feature him. Therefore, when the opening episode has a shot of him, it makes for an interesting and shocking twist, early on the series. Fans of the show know that Greg is the one who was an accomplice in the scamming and murder of Tanya McQuoid-Hunt, in season 2. However, when Tanya accidently falls from the yacht and dies in the second season, the fate of Greg, is left open-ended. In the latest season’s first episode however, Greg makes a surprise return and he is Chloe’s boyfriend. Greg’s presence in the first episode is ominous and is definitely one of the first jaw-dropping moments of the season because the show never revealed Greg’s fate and left no room for speculation about whether the character would return. As Chloe’s boyfriend, Greg’s role is mysterious and many viewers would begin to think what he intends to do now. As a character with a history of violence and manipulations, his return is surprising and raises questions.
3. Jaclyn’s night with Valentin

The White Lotus season 3 has a bunch of guests that arrive at the titular resort and the show slowly reveals the traumas and secrets of each of them. One trio that has an interesting arc in the series is the friend group of Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate. While all three are friends, there are some cracks and traumas in their relationship that makes for an interesting plotline in the series. One of the shocking moments occurs in episode 5 of the show when a nighttime-party is going on and the three women are enjoying themselves. Throughout the show, Jaclyn has pushed Laurie to get intimate with Valentin, who is a handsome resort employee. The others also want Laurie to pursue Valentin as she is the one who is single. However, the trio’s night of partying turns wild and unexpected when Jaclyn invites Valentin to her hotel room and gets intimate with him, instead. Jaclyn wants this to be a secret but Kate catches Valentin leaving Jaclyn’s room in the morning and tells Laurie. This creates a bridge between Jaclyn and Laurie, as the latter is surprised that Jaclyn would get intimate with Valentin when she was the one who wanted Laurie to pursue him.
4. Greg’s se*ual fantasy

In episode 7 of The White Lotus season 3, there is another shocking moment in the show. This time, the scene revolves around Greg and his wife, Chloe. Many viewers of the show know that the series has various characters that indulge in peculiar se*ual fantasies. Therefore, in this episode, the viewers get to know through Chloe, what Greg’s fantasy is. While Greg is a character whose storyline has mainly revolved around Belinda, there are also some moments between him and his wife, Chloe. Greg finally opens up to her and reveals that he used to watch his parents getting intimate when he was a child and therefore, he likes to watch people he loves, getting intimate in front of him. This revelation is shocking but the show has always been risqué in nature. What is even more surprising is that Chloe immediately tells all of this to Saxon and Chelsea and tries to convince Saxon that he should have s*x with her so that Greg can watch them and then join the two. Saxon immediately declines the offer and the whole scene is shocking. However, viewers of the show know that Greg and Chloe had been having a tough time breaking the ice in their relationship. And towards the end of the series, it seems that the couple’s relationship is finally getting better as Greg winks at Chloe, who is talking to another man.
5. Lochlan and Saxon’s moment on the boat

Perhaps one of the most shocking moments of The White Lotus season 3 is the scene with the brothers, Lochlan and Saxon, in episode 5 of the show. Viewers of the series know that when the Ratliff family is introduced, it is immediately made clear that the three siblings, Piper, Lochlan, and Saxon, share a weird dynamic with one another. The two brothers especially, Lochlan and Saxon have a weird relationship. While Lochlan is shy, Saxon is the stereotypical frat boy who wants to take Lochlan under his wings. Things between them are simmering but it all reaches a boiling point when the two engage in a night of partying with Chloe and Chelsea. Saxon wants Lochlan to get intimate with Chloe and become more of a man. However, Saxon and Lochlan hesitantly kiss each other as a joke in front of the girls. While this is shocking in itself, it gets much worse. In episode 6, Saxon begins to remember that the previous night, Lochlan was getting intimate with Chloe and he included Saxon in the act. This is a major reveal in the show as it brings to the fore, the incestuous tendencies between the brothers that was always there in the series. This instance changes the relationship between Saxon and Lochlan and the show proves that there is nothing that the show can’t do to surprise its viewers.
6. Rick frees the snakes

As mentioned above, The White Lotus season 3, has a lot of eccentric and vulnerable characters, who might look posh from the outside, but have deep scars within. One of them is Rick, who has a tragic past. Throughout the first few episodes, he stays to himself and gets irritated easily. Until, Chelsea enters his life and tries to make him better. However, Rick still grapples with the wounds that his father has inflicted and is unable to free himself from his own shackles. In episode 3, Rick decides to take Chelsea into town so that he can buy weed. As he begins to get high, he notices a snake show that is being held close by. Chelsea and Rick check out the show and Rick admires the snakes who are all caged. While any other person might not like the sight, Rick is mesmerized and feels a deep connection with them. Suddenly, he does something shocking and goes to the cages to release all the snakes. The moment is jaw-dropping as it happens without any apparent reason. It also leads to Chelsea getting bitten by one of the snakes, though she is sent to the hospital and gets fully recovered. While viewers might be thinking that Rick did something hastily, the act reveals something deeper about him. It shows that he has a lot of baggage and when he saw the snakes being caged, he identified with them. Throughout the show, Rick also behaves as if he is a prisoner of his own past and therefore, his act of freeing the snakes is symbolic of him freeing himself.
7. Chelsea and Rick getting shot in the finale

The finale of The White Lotus season 3 was a tense and dramatic affair. There were many plotlines that were successfully completed while the arcs of people like Chelsea and Rick suffered from a tragic fate. Throughout the series, Chelsea was getting inhibitions about her life. She even mentioned to Rick that after surviving a robbery and a snake bite, she would not survive the third time. And spookily enough, this is what happens. In the finale episode of the show, Rick is unable to get over his trauma and his shoots Jim Hollinger, who turns out to be his father. The scene quickly becomes chaotic as a shootout ensues between Rick and Jim’s bodyguards. During this crossfire, Chelsea ends up getting shot and dies on the spot. Her death is heartbreaking as she only had pure intentions and wanted to be with Rick. Shocked by Chelsea’s death, Rick goes silent and holds her in his arms and begins walking. However, another shocker happens when Gaitok shoots Rick in his back, which leads to Rick falling into the pool along with Chelsea and the couple’s bodies floating in the water. The scene is heartbreaking and a jaw-dropping end to the tragic pair.
