Jay Halstead, portrayed by Jesse Lee Soffer in the series Chicago P.D., is the main character that had been on the show for almost ten years. Halstead was a faithful and honorable detective who cared at least about his job and colleagues. His departure at the beginning of season 10 was due to a mishandled case. He had no choice but to kill a suspect to defend himself, and this made him wonder where he was heading. Halstead left his job since he was fed up with the ethically questionable side of the police occupation.

He chose to return to the Army to fight Bolivian cartels that sell drugs, which has to do with his service as an Army Ranger. Jesse Lee Soffer quit the series to pursue a career in acting and directing. His character was sent off well and in a dignified, open-ended manner that left scope for revisiting the stories on a later date. This team had a large gap because Halstead and his team were widely popular among the fans.

6. Elias Koteas (Alvin Olinsky)

Elias Koteas was the hard-boiled and respectable investigator known as Alvin Olinsky. The audience of Chicago P.D. was gravely affected by the exit of Olinsky, as the character was killed. This occurred in season 5 when Olinsky was framed because he had committed a murder. His close friend Sergeant Voight was the actual murderer who had to defend the team. The fact that Olinsky died was an emotional and shocking event since he had been a pillar of the Intelligence Unit.

Elias Koteas was not the one who decided to remove the story elements, but the creators of the story made this choice. This departure revealed the ugliness of the challenges encountered by the team, and it was the turning point of the show. The loss of Olinsky was heartfelt to fans who more or less considered him family to the rest of the characters.

5. Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay)

Bush subsequently elaborated that she had left over harsh work conditions, making it more distressing for viewers. Antonio had been significant to the Intelligence Unit, as he was frequently seen working with his sister Gabby. Jon Seda then proceeded to other ventures despite the end of Chicago P.D., but departed his part on an uplifting note with a lot of prospects.
