If we consider the premise of Silo then we would understand that the basic concept of the silo which helps the people survive, is in itself the main reason behind humankind’s knack for survival.

Though much details are yet to be revealed in the series, it can be understood that the silos were created for the survival of the human kind as the outside world was not suitable anymore. The underground bunker highlights humankind’s instinct to survive even in the face of unimaginable disaster.

As the surface world is still dangerous for people to survive outside, that does not mean people would stop and give up. They still found a way to keep going. Even though the way might not be as suitable as one would think, it ensured the continuation of the species.

The series cleverly explores the cost of survival at the expense of some of the fundamental human needs. The silos are a powerful symbol of resilience.

2) Generator

This is yet another depiction and indication of the resilience of the human kind for survival in Silo. The generator was the power source for the silos. The main reason behind its creation was to preserve the life of the people that will live in the silos. The silos were not just random bunkers for temporary survival.

The silos were created in such a manner that they would be able to sustain life for years and years to come. These generators were present in the generator room. The generators are a powerful symbol of the very human trait of survival.

Even though the residents of the silo have often taken the generator for granted, it represents the ingenuity and resourcefulness of those who came before. It is a concrete depiction of humankind’s knack for building, maintaining, and preserving life.

From season 1, Martha Walker’s character has represented that humankind always finds a way to survive. Even though she has kept herself secluded in her workshop, she has always tried to help Juliette throughout.

We can see this especially in helping her with guidance and also equipping her with the right tools, which would help her out. She is the representation that even in the harshest conditions, cut off from the natural environment, people always survive.

She plays a vital role in keeping the silo functioning. Apart from her mechanical skills, her mental fortitude is also a representation of how people eventually are able to cope with difficult times in their own ways. She has her troubles, yet she has become a crucial figure in Juliette’s life.

One of the main aspects of Silo that depicts humankind’s innate knack for survival is when we are introduced with Solo’s character. As Juliette slowly unfurls Solo’s story, we understand the type of past he survived. Even though he was just a kid when he lost his parents, he survived it all.

It is a powerful depiction of human beings’ ability to adapt, endure, and even find small glimmers of hope in the face of difficult situations. His resourcefulness shines through. We can see this especially during his interaction with Juliette.

His role in helping Juliette build an oxygen tube with which she can get into the suit is truly commendable. He is also constantly encouraging Juliette. It depicts the belief he has in her. Even though he had a difficult past, he never lost hope. His journey is not just about breathing and eating. It is about a persistent will to survive.

Even though he prefers the comfort of the vault, his loyalty and connection to Juliette are a depiction of the human spirit’s refusal to extinguish. In the harsh realities of the silo, Solo embodies an enduring strength and adaptibity.

One of the key aspects that define humankind is the rules and regulations. Even though we have free will, we do need to follow a set of rules and regulations that differentiate us from other living creatures. It is a depiction of progress and higher intellect.

However, in a situation where the environment has completely changed and the people have to take on a different route to survive, following a set of rules initially sounds illogical, as it all trickles down to survival. However, even in the most difficult situations, following some rules usually leads to betterment.

In a similar manner, in the silos, people living have to follow a set of rules and regulations. These rules are not just about control but more about the prevention of chaos. This is a true testament to humanity’s deep-seated drive to survive, even in the most unnatural circumstances.

Living in a giant underground bunker is the furthest thing from natural. In such a situation chaos would quickly lead to the collapse of the silo. Even though the rules can be suffocating, they represent a necessary framework for survival.

6) Cleaning ritual

The cleaning ritual is yet another depiction of humankind’s knack for survival, especially if we consider Allison and Holston. It is not just cleaning the sensors, but much more than that. It is a deeply ingrained act of survival. For Allison, she believed that the outside world is not toxic anymore.

However, she met with her end quickly after she stepped outside. It is also the case for Holston. Even though she wanted the residents of the silo to understand that the situation outside the silo was suitable for them she failed to do so. Yet she voluntarily took the risk for the urge to know more.

The human urge to know more about the unknown and work their way through it to eventually survive with better conditions has been represented through this. It is a powerful testament to the human spirit’s enduring capacity for hope.

Allison and Holston’s demise further instigated Juliette to venture outside. However, unlike Holston and Allison, she survives, and it is a depiction of hope. It is a representation of the tenacity that humankind has.
