Sheldon's emotional moment, Dr. Sturgis' mental breakdown, and other unexpected moments from Young Sheldon
1. Connie’s house gets destroyed

The season finale of Young Sheldon had all the viewers in their feelings. While Sheldon and Mary are on their way to Germany, a dangerous tornado storms through the town of Medford. While Georgie and Mandy seek shelter with her parents, Pastor Jeff and Connie hide themselves away in the gambling room. On the other hand, Missy and George have to resort to taking cover on the roadside and share a sweet father-daughter moment. However, when it feels, as the viewers, that everything is alright, it really isn’t. Once Connie comes back with Dale to her house and hopes that not much damage is done, she is shocked to see her entire house razed to the ground. Further, Connie’s hidden stash of cash is also among the ruins. As a viewer, this is a surprising and distressing moment, as it seemed that everyone had braved out the tornado successfully, and even if there was some slight damage, all the viewers’ favorite characters would come out of it easily. However, the fact that Connie’s entire house is destroyed, and that too in a season’s finale, makes the viewers of Young Sheldon curious about where the story will go further. While George asks Connie to come over and stay with them, the sad and upset face of Connie is heartbreaking to see, as she has always been an independent and strong lady.
2. Sheldon having an emotional moment

Since the beginning of Young Sheldon, it is established that Sheldon does not care much about his own or anyone else’s emotions, and because of this, the viewers rarely see him cry. He can be distressed, angry, annoying, and even have fits of sarcasm, but it is a rare instance when Sheldon breaks down crying, and that too because of his father scolding him. Therefore, when in the second season’s first episode, viewers finally get to see a crying Sheldon, it is an unexpected sight. The episode focuses on Sheldon being annoyed by a buzzing sound from the family’s fridge that only he seems to hear. While others have no clue about this sound, Sheldon is perplexed as he is sensitive to the most random things and cannot get that sound off of his mind. Missy decides to use this opportunity to play a prank on Sheldon and asks him to take the fridge apart and rectify the mistake himself. Sheldon believes her and begins to tear the fridge down. However, he ends up destroying the fridge, and his father, George, has to pay a hefty amount to get it repaired. This leads to George scolding Sheldon for his mistake and making him realize the value of money. It is at this moment that Sheldon breaks down into tears, and surprisingly, Missy comes over and gives her brother a hug. The moment in Young Sheldon was unexpected and had a sweet ending.
3. Mandy tells Georgie she’s pregnant

The fifth season of Young Sheldon begins to get hectic as Mandy enters Georgie’s life and the two begin to date each other. However, the problem is that both of them are lying about their age. While Georgie mentions that he is above 18, Mandy says that she is not that old. Therefore, problems are just waiting on their doorstep. However, it is surprising when their dating gets serious and Georgie begins to fall for Mandy, and she for him. Despite closely monitoring Georgie's antics, Connie and the audience are unprepared for what is about to occur. Throughout Young Sheldon, Georgie has had a casual series of relationships, and no track on the show has lasted for a long time. Therefore, it is an unexpected surprise when Mandy ends up being a serious part of Georgie’s life, and in the season’s 17th and 18th episodes, it is revealed that she is pregnant with her and Georgie’s child. Many viewers did not see this coming, as many hoped that the lies that both of them have been telling would come out and the two would part ways. However, the two stick by each other, and Mandy decides to keep the child, and Georgie becomes mature and wants to take responsibility for his family.
4. Sheldon’s three knocks

In the tenth season of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon mentions that he knows his father cheated on his mother during his childhood because he knocked on his parents’ door during childhood and saw his father with another woman. However, when Young Sheldon started airing, George was the opposite of what Sheldon had portrayed him as a father in the original show. Not only did George not seem like someone who would cheat on his wife, he was also a loving and supportive father. While there was a time in the show when George and Brenda had an awkward moment and it felt like George was going to go astray in his marriage, that did not happen. Instead, George and Mary stuck with each other and continued to love each other. Therefore, fans were always puzzled as to why Sheldon believed that his father had cheated on his mother. This mystery was solved in the seventh season’s 14th episode of Young Sheldon when Sheldon and Mary come back from Germany and Mary has a surprise for her husband. It turns out that Mary got into a costume of a German girl, and she and George begin to get intimate when Sheldon knocks and enters their room. For the audience, this is a shocking turn of events because Sheldon was unaware that George was only with his mother. On the other hand, it is comforting for the viewers, as George was never the type to cheat on his wife and family.
5. Dr. Sturgis’ mental breakdown

Young Sheldon has a host of interesting characters, and one of them is Dr. Sturgis, who ends up being a mentor and guide for Sheldon and is one of the first senior members from the field of science to enter Sheldon’s life. He is not only Sheldon’s first science professor, but he also becomes a beloved part of his family. Sturgis falls for Sheldon’s vivacious grandmother, Connie, and the two become inseparable, even though the two come from very different walks of life. While Sturgis is docile and always busy in science, Connie likes to live life fully and is a fashionista. Therefore, it comes as a shock when Dr. Sturgis suffers from a mental breakdown in the second season’s 22nd episode of Young Sheldon. The professor gets triggered by the Nobel announcements and has an episode of emotional distress. Connie ends up getting to know more about Sturgis’ past life from Dr. Linkletter, and the biggest surprise comes when she finds him on the roof doing Tai Chi. Till then, viewers had seen Sturgis as a balanced man who did everything right in his life. However, seeing him battling with his mental health was a somber and vulnerable moment, and viewers finally see him going for therapy and the loving relationship between Connie and Sturgis coming to an end.
6. Missy’s interest in baseball

Missy is one of the most entertaining characters in Young Sheldon. Not only is she a young rebel, but she also knows how to deal with the world and has lots of empathy for her family members, even if they sometimes ignore her. As the twin sister of Sheldon, Missy has her moments when she feels inferior compared to him, but she proves that being confident and happy in your own world can bring a lot of joy. Throughout the show, it is shown that Missy loves to be fashionable and has the typical interests and affinity for things that a young girl of her age has. She likes to listen to music, has a crush on boys, and wants to be a part of the cool girls group. However, it is a pleasant surprise when, in the third season’s 6th episode of Young Sheldon, Missy ends up finding an identity for herself through the sport of baseball. Missy proves that she has a strong arm and surprises her father with her throwing and catching skills. After the family visits a church carnival, Missy even decides to try out for the baseball team, even though she faces resistance from the boys because she is a girl and the other girls try to humiliate her. However, Missy proves that she is a bright and confident child and stumps everyone with her baseball skills.
7. George’s death

While ardent fans of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon knew that Sheldon’s father dies of a heart attack when Sheldon was still young, it is still an extremely devastating moment when he actually dies in the show. The moment is surprising because it is done in such a realistic manner, without any forewarning, that it feels like a huge blow that came out of nowhere. In season seven’s 12th episode, everything is going right for the Coopers as Sheldon is on his way to college and George has received a handsome job offer in Houston. Mary decides that as the family is leaving Medford, it is the perfect time to get a family portrait, as it is a traditional thing. However, as everyone gets ready to have a photo taken, George has still not come back from his work. As everyone awaits, their doorbell rings, and Principal Petersen and Coach Wayne inform the family that George has passed away due to a heart attack. The fact that everything was going smoothly and George has an off-screen death is a big blow to fans of Young Sheldon. It is one of the most unexpected moments in the show and also the most emotional. As Missy and Connie begin to cry and Mary and Sheldon try to hold back emotions, it is a heartbreaking scene to witness.
