9-1-1, the procedural drama that follows the challenges faced by the first responders, is not for the faint of heart.
Each season brings forth more and more complex storylines. In 9-1-1 season 8, Maddie is the character who faces the most challenges when she finds a life-threatening situation and is also pregnant during this whole ordeal.
In the 10th episode of 9-1-1 Season 8, we see that Detective Braeburn slits Maddie’s throat while the two are fighting. So does Maddie die in the end? The answer is no. Proving her resilience once again, Maddie survives this intense, traumatic situation.
What happens to Maddie in 9-1-1?
In season 8 episode 10, Maddie’s life takes a turn when she is kidnapped. The kidnapper is not a petty criminal as one might think. Rather, the kidnapper is LAPD Detective Amber Braeburn. So why does an LAPD detective kidnap someone?

The reason why Amber takes this drastic step is that she is suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder, and a kidnapping incident triggered her actions. So when Maddie tried to escape her predicament, Amber attacked her.
She slits Maddie’s throat with the intention of killing her. However, Maddie is saved by Chimney and Athena Grant. Athena shoots Amber and kills her in the end, saving Maddie’s life.
Jennifer Love Hewitt captures the torment that Maddie goes through with perfection.
Is Jennifer Love Hewitt leaving 9-1-1?
Jennifer Love’s Maddie might face life-threatening situations now and then, but she is here to stay. Despite getting her throat slit, Maddie survives the trauma. She will definitely come back stronger for the upcoming episodes of the series. In an interview with TV Insider, Jennifer Love Hewitt talked about Maddie’s return in the series after her throat is slit. She said,
“It isn’t immediate. That’s all I can say. It isn’t like a next-day kind of thing. It takes a minute, and she will deal with some things that will be challenging to her in sort of getting back there again,”

Jennifer Love added,
“I think Maddie has fought her whole life, and I think sometimes Maddie is better at fighting hard for things than she is living an easy day-to-day life, and that’s her trauma. And so I think the fight in her, the reason that’s my favorite part of her is because I think that’s her most authentic self. I think she has fought for a very, very, very long time, and living a life of ease is actually harder for her than fighting to get out. But I also think Maddie’s really good at looking at the situations and going, oh, this is bigger than me.”
