The Rookie is a procedural show, starring Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, who joins the LAPD as the oldest rookie to become a police officer.
He is initially not accepted due to his age, but after noticing his hard-working and trustworthy nature, his colleagues begin to warm up to him. While solving crimes around the city, the cops also give us chaotic and hilarious moments, most of which are directed toward Nolan.
Here’s a list of 9 such moments from The Rookie, where John Nolan found himself as the victim of his colleagues' laughs and jokes.
9 Times John Nolan in The Rookie was mocked by his colleagues
9) Sgt. Grey indirectly mocks Nolan’s age (Season 1, Episode 1)

SInce the very beginning of The Rookie, Nolan has been dealing with comments on his age due to joining the police force as he nears 40. It is evident in the first roll call, when Sgt. Grey introduces Nolan, Lucy Chen, and West as the new rookies.
His description of Chen and West is great, but his dismissal of Nolan being a cop is evident when he makes a comment about Nolan being born before disco died. This is the first moment when Nolan finds himself at the centre of being mocked by his colleague and boss.
8) Everyone seeks advice from Nolan (Season 4, Episode 8)

It begins with Bradford asking Nolan about the value of selling his dad’s house, which hasn’t been repaired for a long time. To add to this, Harper also joins in telling everyone that Nolan will help her next in fixing her new kitchen backsplash.
The questions keep coming from his other colleagues related to design and architecture, as he used to be a contractor, making Lopez laugh at him.
7) Nolan is left to handle his rookie (Season 7, Episode 12)

In Episode 12 of The Rookie Season 7, Nolan, the new T.O., gets his rookie named Craig, who is nothing like the good rookie he was described to be. His training is not well done, and Nolan thinks it might be one of the April Fool's pranks on him.
However, it wasn’t a prank, and he is stuck with the rookie, which gives Celina and Chen a chance to poke fun at him. As they encounter him during their duty, Nolan tries to confirm if he was being pranked, and after seeing the condition of the rookie, they almost agree that it might be a prank, but also tell him that the rookie might be nervous and trying to impress him.
Therefore, after poking some more fun at Nolan’s situation, the duo leaves him with his rookie.
6) Harper’s cold comment to Nolan (Season 1, Episode 20)

Harper and Nolan were opposites in The Rookie, due to which their friendship becomes one of the highlights of the procedural show. While Nolan is kindhearted, Harper appears to be more guarded.
However, she does not shy away from giving us moments where, just like his other superiors, she also teases and pretends to scare Nolan. In Episode 20 of The Rookie Season 1, Nolan nervously says he wants to hug Harper. Without wasting a moment, Harper replies and says:
"Do you wanna get tased?"
Ending the conversation then and there, giving us another moment of how it was easy for his colleagues to poke fun at his naivety.
5) The promotional video prank (Season 1, Episode 15)

Nolan’s hard work as a cop helps him create a place for himself in the LAPD in The Rookie. However, it doesn’t help him much when he becomes a part of their elaborate and hilarious pranks.
In Episode 15 of The Rookie Season 1, Nolan, with Chen and West, becomes the victim of a prank when they are asked to appear in the LAPD promotional video, which goes horribly wrong, since none of them has acting experience, and is shown by Sgt. Grey to the whole branch, making them the joke of the day.
4) Jackson and Chen accompany Henry in mocking Nolan (Season 1, Episode 10)

Episode 10 of The Rookie Season 1 was hilarious from the beginning. From Nolan getting arrested for breaking into his own car to his son making fun of him.
As Chen and West arrive at the precinct, they greet Henry, confusing Nolan. He learns that they have been friends with Henry on social media. All of them laugh as Henry tells his dad that it's 2019 and it's normal to be friends with his Dad’s colleagues. To which West and Chen laugh at Nolan’s awkwardness with the situation, and Jackson even calls him Dad, agreeing with Henry, making the scene more funny.
3) Grey mocks Nolan (Season 1, Episode 10)

In the same episode, the fun doesn’t stop with just his rookie colleagues and his son making fun of him; it ends with Sgt. Grey’s funny comment.
When Captain Andersen and Grey decide that they will be part of patrolling and will be joining the rookies with their T.O.s, Nolan suggests that Grey accompany West. To which Grey nonchalantly says:
"That’s cute, Officer Nolan. But you know my heart belongs to you."
Making everyone laugh and Nolan dread the day.
2) Grey asks Nolan to get out of his office (Season 5, Episode 2)

Over the years, John Nolan has become one of the trusted officers of Sgt. Grey in The Rookie. Once, who appeared to be just a pushover, Nolan has built a great relationship with Grey, and the senior officer never misses a chance to remind Nolan of how he could make him terrified with his reactions.
For instance, in Episode 2 of Season 5, Grey congratulates Nolan for clearing his FTO exam and while they discuss helping each other, Nolan tries to sit down to talk to Grey and asks if he can now call him Wade, but before he finishes his sentence, Grey orders him to get out of his office and close the door while leaving, scaring the kindhearted officer. The moment turns funnier when Grey tries to stifle his smile after scaring him.
1) Harper teaches Nolan a method to relax (Season 3, Episode 5)

Harper and Nolan had been in a chaotic partnership, and gave us some hilariously laughable moments. One of those moments is from Season 3 of The Rookie.
In Episode 5, Nolan is preparing for his disciplinary exams, and Harper advises him that he needs to shake off the anxiety and relax to do well in the exam. Nolan asks if he has to literally shake it off, to which Harper agrees.
After a mild attempt at it, Harper asks him to do it more powerfully, which will make him at ease, and he falls for it and shakes his whole body like he is being tased by someone. The whole precinct, including Harper, laughed at how he became the victim of another prank.
