George Clooney has joined the long list of fans who have watched and loved Noah Wyle's starrer, The Pitt. The medical drama premiered on Max earlier this year and broke viewership records with its realistic portrayal of how a hospital’s emergency department functions room.
Clooney, who had previously starred with Wyle in another hit medical drama, ER, has now expressed his thoughts on his former co-star’s new show. During a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the acclaimed actor praised The Pitt and Wyle’s performance in it, and said:
“Have you guys seen that show? It’s so good, and I have to say: We’ve been really dear friends since [ER] — since we did the pilot of the show. He is just the most honorable, talented young man, [which] I get to say because I’m an old man, and I cannot be happier for his success on the show. The show is just a beautiful show, and he does just a great job with it.”
George Clooney praises his ER co-star Noah Wyle’s show The Pitt
ER aired on NBC from 1994 to 2009, with George Clooney and Noah Wyle starring as Dr. Doug Ross and John Carter, respectively, during the first five seasons. Speaking about The Pitt, Clooney noted that Wyle was always good with medical terminology, even in their ER days, so it is no surprise that he is doing a fantastic job as Dr. Robby in the Max medical drama:
“He always could do it, and I hated him for that.”
Clooney revealed that, unlike Wyle, he struggled to remember medical jargon. He recalled an incident on the set of ER when the cast had to perform a 12-page monologue, which took them 40 takes to shoot because he kept messing up the terminology:
“We used to do these things called oners. You’ve got to get 12 pages of dialogue out and nobody can screw up, or you have to start all over again. I’m at the very end of the oner, at Page 12, and I have one line — supraventricular tachyarrhythmia — and I’m telling you, I never got it! Literally! We did, like, 40 takes, and the rest of the cast is, like, ‘Are you f–king kidding me?'”
The Pitt has brought back Wyle in his doctor avatar approximately 16 years after the conclusion of ER. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the show follows the challenges faced by the doctors and staff of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. What makes the show unique is that each episode highlights one complete hour of the 15-hour emergency room shift.
Wyle stars in the series as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, joined by Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa "Mel" King, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi, and Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker.
The Pitt has already been renewed for a second season, which will start with a time jump. The upcoming season will depict a 15-hour shift during the Independence Day weekend and is set to premiere in January 2026. Season 1 of The Pitt is available for streaming on Max.
