Tim Burton turned up for the premiere of Wednesday Season 2 in London, sharing his thoughts on working with Lady Gaga.

“A beautiful thing to witness”

Burton spoke about the energy Gaga brought to the Nevermore Academy hallways, capturing how her presence lifted the entire crew’s spirits. Burton has long been known for his gothic style, and adding Gaga’s creative flair to the show felt like a natural fit.

His comments came just days before the first four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 hit screens on August 6, 2025. While the director typically keeps a measured tone, he was unable to hide his genuine admiration for Gaga’s dedication and artistry.

Burton waxed lyrical about Lady Gaga at the London gala and added that it was a very uplifting and inspiring experience to team up with such an artist. He likened his experience collaborating with Gaga to a reunion with other seasoned actors, such as Joanna Lumley and Steve Buscemi.

Burton said that every time a fresh face comes out on the set, the crew lights up and the air is filled with excitement. Terming the reaction as a beautiful thing to see, he, in a sense, underlined how Gaga contributed to the new momentum in the show.

In Season 2, Lady Gaga plays Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy. Gaga missed the London premiere due to her Mayhem Ball tour. She filmed her scenes in Ireland alongside Jenna Ortega.

Rosaline’s arrival adds a new layer of mystery and mentorship to the storyline. Her character brings both humor and gravitas, giving the character a chance to test her wits against a seasoned educator. This fresh dynamic enriches the series and demonstrates why Burton was keen to work with Gaga.

Beyond its famous dance sequences and dark humor, Wednesday Season 2 places a stronger focus on family ties. Burton noted that this season explores Wednesday’s relationship with Morticia and even Morticia’s connection with her mother.

By shining a light on these bonds, the show invites viewers to see the Addams family not just as spooky oddballs, but as a close, if quirky, unit. This emphasis on home life deepens the emotional stakes and gives Jenna Ortega’s character new challenges to face.

Burton, speaking at the Giffoni Film Festival, suggested that he and Gaga could work together again after the second season of Wednesday. When we pressed about future projects, he coyly replied that they had done something together, but he could not say what.

His hope is clear: to keep teaming up with artists who bring fresh ideas and energy to his work. Given his track record with visionary performers, fans can look forward to more creative sparks. As the second half of Season 2 arrives on September 3, viewers will be watching not only for plot twists, but for the collaboration magic Burton described so fondly.
