The fact that George R.R. Martin is very pleased with what he has seen of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the second Game of Thrones spin-off, has already instilled excitement for the prequel series. Adding to that, the aspect of the history that the series will make in the Game of Thrones universe is just the cherry on top of the cake.

After House of the Dragon, the next spinoff, which is set to make its premiere in the Game of Thrones universe, is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Despite no official release window, it has been announced that the series will premiere sometime in 2026.

For A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a 2026 premiere will mark history, as it will be the first time in nine years that the Tyrell clan appears in the Game of Thrones universe.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R.R. Martin's novellas in the Tales of Dunk and Egg series that were compiled into a single book of the same name in 2015. This series will be the first time that a member of the Tyrell clan is featured in the Game of Thrones universe since 2017. This record will be marked with the appearance of Lord Leo "Longthorn" Tyrell, played by Steve Wall.

House Tyrell is one of the nine major houses in the universe, and the last time they were featured in Westeros was in the third episode of the seventh season of Game of Thrones in 2017. In Game of Thrones, most of the legitimate Targaryens died, except for Viserys and Daenerys, meaning a lot of the other houses were looped into the story, causing appearances from the Tyrell House as well.

Whereas in House of the Dragon: The Dance of Dragons, the central conflict is the civil war within the Targaryen family. The war led by Rhaenyra on one side and Aegon II on the other forced all of the powerful players in the realm to choose between the two.

The House of Tyrell, ruled by an infant and his mother, chose to remain neutral in this civil war. The Regent of Highgarden (the infant's mother) did not see any good in engaging in the civil war by choosing between both sides, leading to no appearance of the Tyrells in the Game of Thrones universe since the 2017 appearance.

So, House of Dragons might've created a gap between the other houses and the Targaryens, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to bring us back to the family dynamics in Game of Thrones. Fans of the original series who've missed this aspect in House of the Dragon can look forward to this aspect of the latest prequel, which is set a century before Game of Thrones.

Finally, considering how impressed Martin is with the new series has to carry some weight for fans of the author's universe:

"I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well."
