A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the upcoming GOT prequel?

HBO has recently shared a trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere on January 18, 2026. This is the second prequel series of GOT and the third installment based on George R. R. Martin's Songs of Ice and Fire.

It follows the story of the adventures of Ser Duncan, a hedge knight, and Prince Aegon Targaryen, who will be his squire. The show is adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas and is set 100 years before the events of GOT and 72 years after the events of House of the Dragon. With a powerful cast, the latest fantasy series will take us back to Westeros in a different timeline.

As the trailer of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms suggests, the fantasy series will follow Duncan and his squire, Prince Aegon Targaryen, or Egg, in their journey where the hedge knight tries to seek adventures to prove his worth as a knight. While the show exists in the same GOT universe, the tone of the latest series will be different from the previous ones.

The main cast and character guide of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are as follows:

1) Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall or Dunk

In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Claffey plays Dunk, the wandering knight. As per the lore, he will participate in the Ashford Tourney, meaning we will see many moments of jousting between knights of Westeros, wth Ser Duncan also swinging the sword.

The Irish actor has appeared in shows such as Vikings: Valhalla and Bad Sisters, and has also appeared in the film Small Things Like These with Cillian Murphy.


2) Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen or Egg

Child actor Dexter Sol Ansell plays Prince Aegon Tragaryen in the fantasy series. He conceals his identity and introduces himself as Egg to Dunk, and assumes his name would be Duncan. He tries to convince Dunk to make him his squire, but the latter refuses initially, but later for the duration of the Ashford Tourney, he accepts his services, without knowing his true identity.

The young British actor has been part of the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and the TV show The Midwich Cuckoos, among several others.


3) Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen

Carvel's Prince Baelor is the heir to the Iron Throne in the HBO series. He is Egg's uncle and also the one who helps Dunk in the tournament by vouching for his knighthood, which was being questioned by Lord Ashford's steward during the Ashford Tourney.

Apart from appearing in the fantasy series, the renowned British actor will also appear in HBO's other anticipated fantasy series, Harry Potter. He has also been part of popular shows such as Doctor Who and The Crown.


4) Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen

Veteran actor Sam Spruell is set to appear as Price Maeker in the upcoming HBO series. Maeker is Egg's father and the one who will ascend the Iron Throne in the series.

From popular shows such as Dune: Prophecy and Fargo to movies like The Martian and The Hurt Locker, the acclaimed British actor has been part of numerous other projects in his long and illustrious career.


5) Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle

Crawford's Tanselle is a puppeteer in the HBO series. In Ashford, she performs different narratives about the history of Westeros, which lands her in trouble, and Dunk and Egg have to come to her rescue.

The Australian actress was previously seen in Tiny Beautiful Things and M. Night Shyamalan's Servant.


6) Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen

Bennett's Prince Aerion is Egg's older brother in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He is Maeker's second son, who participates in the Ashford Tourney with his elder brother, but does not bring favourable results for his father. He is also the one who threatens Tanselle.

The British actor has appeared in popular shows such as True Detective: Night Country and the 2025 film, Warfare.


7) Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon

Ings's Ser Lyonel is the heir of Storm's End and the House Baratheon. A ferocious knight known for laughing loudly at his opponents becomes Egg's Ally in the HBO series.

The British actor has been a part of TV shows such as Sex Education, The Crown, Black Mirror, and will be seen in the film The Woman in Cabin 10, starring Keira Knightley.
