After delivering yet another hour-long Christmas Special episode on CBS on December 18, Ghosts Season 5 has now paused for its annual winter hiatus. The network's spooky sitcom will return with new episodes in February 2026.

Christmas 2025 was quite eventful at the Woodstone mansion, where Flower possessed Sam right before her important live interview about her Vampire book on Issac. Flower's possession led Sam to take a Christmas candy dr*g from Gabe, which sent her on a weird fever dream in a world where she was unable to see ghosts.

Now that Ghosts Season 5 has wrapped its Holiday-Special episodes, fans are speculating on the future of the series. In an exclusive interview with Deadline, showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have teased 'There’s a lot of fun stuff' awaiting fans in the latter half of the fifth season.

More on this in our story.

Ghosts Season 5 showrunners tease an exciting future for the spooky series in the coming year

Now that Sam, Jay and the Woodstone Spirits have officially gone on their annual winter hiatus, fans are already wondering what Ghosts Season 5 has in store for the coming year. In an exclusive interview with Deadline, the series' showrunners tease the future of the show.

Patience and 'The Others'

Starting strong, Ghosts Season 5 Christmas Special episode leaves us with an exciting cliffhanger, teasing Patience's potential family in The Others. After Trevor and Patience shared a passionate kiss in the episode, the Puritan ghost reveals she is ready to unlock the next step in their relationship and much to Trevor's horror, introduces him and Sass to 'The Others', who were also teased in the Ghosts Season 4 premiere.

Teasing The Others' arrival, Wiseman revealed:

''We’re going to meet the Others. At the end of the second Christmas episode, we see sort of a silhouette of them entering. So we’re going to basically continue from that point forward. So we’re going to meet the Others, and there will be a number of stories that kind of ripple out from that.''

Now that Patience has become one of the fan-favorite recurring Woodstone Spirits, the spooky sitcom is finally expanding on her lore. Fans will likely learn about the Others and the ghost's backstory in the upcoming episodes.

Ghosts Season 5 will continue its tradition of Holiday-themed episodes

If you are thinking Ghosts Season 5 has concluded its run of Holiday-themed episodes with Halloween and Christmas, you are wrong. Continuing the tradition from the past season, the latter half of the fifth season will feature another St. Patrick’s Day/St. Hetty’s Day episode. This tradition started in Ghosts Season 4, where Hetty discovered she can be seen by the living on St. Patrick's Day.

Wiseman confirmed Ghosts Season 5 will continue to feature this Special episode every season:

''We’re gonna have another St. Patrick’s Day/St. Hetty’s Day episode, as we established last year, that her power is enacted every St Patrick’s Day where the livings can see Hetty. So we’re gonna have another episode.''

Like Hetty, fans are also eagerly waiting for the next St. Patrick's Day.

Michael Jackson and Kyle return

Remember when Trevor had a job and asked Jay to pretend to be 'Michael Jackson' for his office retreat? Ghosts Season 5 is set to feature another nostalgic callback, with Jay once again stepping into his 'Michael Jackson' persona from an earlier season. While the Finance bro is naturally not Jay's favorite Woodstone spirit, he duly helped him by pretending to be Michael Jackson in front of his colleagues. The upcoming episodes will see Trevor getting yet another job where he will need Jay's help.

Talking about callbacks, Ghosts Season 5's upcoming episodes will also mark the return of Kyle, the fellow living who can see spirits, like Sam. After Kyle mended his ways with Sam and Jay in Episode 6, he will return to babysit the ghosts in yet another episode. Wiseman teased these exciting returns as:

''Trevor had a job, and Jay has to pretend to be Michael Jackson. So, we’re going to see him having to come back and reprise that role. We’re gonna see Kyle again in the second half of the season. Kyle’s the other living who can see the ghosts, who comes to babysit them every now and then.''

Additionally, the upcoming episodes will continue to deliver hearty laughs and expand Sam & Jay's relationship with the Woodstone spirits. While you sit tight and wait for the ghosts to haunt your screens again, you can catch all previous seasons on Paramount+.

Ghosts Season 5 will return with new episodes on CBS on February 26.
