A Man on the Inside: Charles will be taking up a new case in Season 2, here's everything we know so far

Retired professor Charles Nieuwendyk is gearing up for another stint as an undercover detective, as Netflix has set an official release date for A Man on the Inside Season 2.

The hit Michael Schur-created comedy series, based on Maite Alberdi's 2020 documentary The Mole Agent, will return for a second season on November 20, 2025.

Season 2 will mark the return of comedian Ted Danson (The Good Place), who was highly appreciated for his performance as an undercover agent in Season 1, earning him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. The comedy series was rated 'Fresh' on Rotten Tomatoes and was soon renewed for Season 2.

A Man on the Inside Season 1 followed Charles as he got a new lease on life and became an undercover detective in a retirement home. The intriguing mystery of finding some missing jewelry was equally hilarious and thrilling. Season 2 will take Charles to Wheeler College on a new case.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creator Michael Schur teased a second season as:

“What you have at the end of the season is a 76-year-old man with a new lease on life and a new sense of purpose and a new kind of fledgling career as an undercover detective. … You have a lot of building blocks for future seasons.”

A Man on the Inside Season 2: First look photos of Danson and the returning cast

It's official! Retired professor Charles Nieuwendyk is back as an undercover detective for another round of thrilling and humour-filled mystery at Wheeler College. The change of location (from the retirement home in Season 1) will surely add another flavour to A Man on the Inside Season 2 and will also introduce us to a host of new characters/suspects.

The series' return, albeit exciting, is not shocking, as A Man on the Inside Season 1 spent many weeks on Netflix's Top 10 charts. Danson's particular brand of humour elevated the already exceptional writing to new heights.

Netflix recently released the first look photos of A Man on the Inside Season 2, re-introducing Danson's Charles in another riveting mystery. While the sophomore season will feature another standalone case for the rookie undercover detective, the photos suggest that Charles maintained contact with some of his old friends, who will return in Season 2.

In addition to Danson, the first look images confirm that Mary Elizabeth Ellis as Emily, Lilah Richcreek Estrada as Julie, Stephanie Beatriz as Didi, and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Calbert will return in the sophomore season. The images also introduced us to new characters and featured Charles on campus, solving another mystery.

All about the central mystery and the main players in A Man on the Inside Season 2

Season 2 of A Man on the Inside will take Charles to another undercover mission, but this time at Wheeler College, where President Jack Beringer is being blackmailed.

Being a charismatic President, Jack's job is to raise funds from wealthy graduates, which makes billionaire Brad Vinick a key suspect. The campus is filled with many eccentric characters, who will become potential suspects/blackmailers for Charles this season.

In addition, A Man on the Inside Season 2 will also feature a potential romantic sub-plot for Charles, after he meets a free-spirited music teacher, Mona, on campus, who is played by Danson's real-life wife and actress Mary Steenburgen. While the undercover detective work has given him a new purpose in his professional life, he has still not moved on from the passing of his wife. Could Mona be his true soulmate this season, or is he falling for the mastermind?
