Antony Starr, The Boys star who plays Homelander, recently revealed his favorite moments from the show. Across four seasons, the series has presented Homelander at his most violent, unstable, and emotionally removed. For Starr, the scenes that were most memorable weren't even action-packed—they were about getting to know what makes his character fall apart from the inside.
“A moment that stands out for me, in Season 3 was doing the scene in the mirror,” Starr said.
At a For Your Consideration (FYC) panel, Starr joined castmates including Jack Quaid, Colby Minifie, Tomer Capone, Susan Heyward, Nathan Mitchell, Claudia Doumit, Jessie T. Usher, Erin Moriarty, and Chace Crawford. Together, they looked back at how the series has evolved.
During the discussion, Starr explained which scenes pushed him as an actor and how working closely with showrunner Eric Kripke allowed him to take the character deeper.
Here’s a closer look at what Antony Starr had to say about his role in The Boys and the Homelander moments that made a lasting impact on him.
The Boys Season 3: Homelander in the Mirror
For Starr, one key moment came during The Boys Season 3 in a scene where Homelander faces his own reflection. This scene, which shows cracks in the superhero’s mental state, gave Starr a chance to go deeper into the character’s psychology.

“I remember reading it and then saying to [creator] Eric Kripke, ‘I think there’s somewhere we can go.’”
That conversation with Kripke turned into a new version of the scene.
“Every season I get an episode or a scene that will connect in a different way and it sparks something like, ‘Oh, my God, we can go there.’ I hit up Eric and he’s always been true to his word,” Starr explained.
He also spoke about the creative process behind the scenes.
“It’s the best collaboration that I’ve had thus far in my career. He’s astounding in that respect. We’ve got a great creative rapport,” he said. “So in Season 3, that moment for me was the reflecting in the mirror scene. I saw another lane to go down and I pitched it to Eric and then we sort of cobbled it together, and then it ended up really twisted and dark.”
The Boys Season 4: Returning to the Lab
Starr also picked a standout scene from The Boys Season 4. In Episode 4, the show revisits the lab where Homelander was raised. The scene gives more insight into the character’s origins and emotional scars.
“On the same note, it was one of those ‘oof, there it is’ moments — Episode 4 going back to the lab where Homelander was raised,” Starr said.
He noted that the script was strong but that there was more they could explore.
“That was another one of those moments where what was on the page was great, but sometimes you see an angle or a way through or something that you can lock into,” he said. “Again, pitched it to Eric and we knocked it together and it was amazing.”

For Starr, the power of the scene came from not knowing where it would lead.
“If I don’t know what’s going to happen, then the audience isn’t going to know what’s going to happen,” he said. “You’re right on the edge of things going wrong, which is a really creatively great place to be. That’s where we were at in both those scenes.”
The characters behind the chaos
Starr also talked about what sets The Boys apart from other superhero shows. According to him, it’s not just the action or the plot—it’s the damage beneath the surface.
“Every character represented by these people on stage is incredibly damaged,” he said. “That’s one of the things that I’m really proud of about us and the show is that we go to those deep dark places that people can relate to.”
He believes this is one of the reasons the show connects with viewers.
“I think that’s part of why there’s been such a response. So that scene was a real standout,” he said, referring back to the mirror moment from The Boys Season 3.
