Invasion Season 3 is set to release on Friday, August 22, 2025.

As they await the latest season, fans have been wondering what happened in the first two seasons. In the previous seasons, we saw that humans are in danger, as aliens have invaded Earth. But the one thing that separates this show from other alien attack stories from the US is that it is a slow-burn series that follows different perspectives.

This means that viewers are given perspectives of different continents and races. Throughout the series, fans heard different languages like English, Japanese, and Pashto. If the entire Earth is under attack by aliens, it only makes sense that the show follows characters across different continents and races.

The official synopsis of the series reads:

"Set across multiple continents, “Invasion” follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. The series stars Shamier Anderson (“Bruised,” “Awake”), Golshifteh Farahani (“Extraction,” “Paterson,” “Body of Lies”), Sam Neill (“Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Peaky Blinders”), Firas Nassar (“Fauda”) and Shioli Kutsuna (“Deadpool 2,” “The Outsider”)."

As season 3 approaches, here is a look at what happens in Invasion seasons 1 and 2:

Here's what happens in the first two seasons of the Apple+ series:

  • One of the protagonists, Caspar, shares a connection with the aliens

One of the most discussed aspects of the Apple+ series is the character of the young boy Caspar, played by actor Billy Barratt. Introduced in the first season, Caspar is a troubled British boy who creates strange images linked to the alien invasion in the series. American soldier Trevante, who is displaced, and Caspar's classmate Jamila, take him to a hospital in London.

They realize that the boy shares some sort of telepathic connection with the aliens, which also supposedly worsens his health, ultimately leading to his "death" in the season 1 finale. However, despite his body being declared dead, Caspar's mind is still functioning, which plays a role in the second season, which is mostly linked to Trevante's storyline in season 2.

  • Trevante Cole is a displaced soldier trying to return home

Throughout the runtime of the Invasion Season 1, Shamier Anderson's Trevante Cole is a soldier who is put through the ringer. On the personal front, he is dealing with a broken marriage, and on the professional front, he is the sole survivor of his squadron. He manages to make it to London, where he forms a bond with Caspar, only to lose the boy. But the saddest moment with the character happens in the season 1 finale.

The first season ends with humans preemptively starting to celebrate victory, believing that they have won. A mourning Trevante returns to the US to convince his wife, Learah, not to leave him. He even promises to quit the army and find a safer job, after which she agrees not to leave him.

In the closing minutes of the season, as he is enjoying downtime with Learah, Trevante is shocked to see the alien ship in the sky, setting the stage for his return to the army in season 2.

In the second season, we learn that he still refers to Caspar's sketches. In the season 2 finale, Trevante manages to enter the hivemind, where he is shocked to meet Caspar, whose eyes go white, and he starts making alien squishing noise. This moment has fans wondering if Caspar was an alien all along.

  • Mitsuki has a tragic story

Deadpool II's Shioli Kutsuna, who plays Mitsuki Yamato, is working in the Japanese equivalent of NASA in the first season. She is in a loving relationship with astronaut Hinata, who is played by actress Rinko Kikuchi. Hinata's death in the hands of the invaders propels Mitsuki to make a telepathic contact with the aliens in the season 1 finale.

In the second season, she is the one who discovers Caspar thanks to her telepathic connection. They collaborate throughout the season. She also helps Trevante enter the hivemind inside the Invasion Season 2 finale.

  • Aneesha is a single mother who wants to protect her children

Golshifteh Farahani's Aneesha Malik has her idyllic life shattered in the Invasion Season 1 as she discovers her husband Ahmed's infidelity and then the alien attack. The couple has two kids, Luke and Sarah. Aneesha's major storyline throughout the first and second seasons is caring for her children after Ahmed's passing.

But her storyline might be expanded in the third season as Luke shares a similar telepathic link with the aliens, like Caspar.

"“Invasion” follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. In season three, those perspectives collide for the first time, as the series’ main characters are brought together to work as a team on a critical mission to infiltrate the alien mothership. The ultimate apex aliens have finally emerged, rapidly spreading their deadly tendrils across the planet."
"It will take all heroes working together, using their experience and expertise, to save the species. New relationships are formed, old relationships are challenged and even shattered, as an international cast of characters must become a team before it’s too late."

As we wait for the third season, watch the first two seasons, which are available to stream on Apple+.
