Mr. Robot, starring Rami Malek, isn't your regular techno thriller; it's a reflection of the modern world and its dangers. It delves into the life of Eliot Anderson, an impeccable hacker and a cybersecurity specialist, who joins a team of hacktivists called fsociety. Their motive? To hack into the E Corps system and erase all the consumer debt data. Quite revolutionary..isn't it?

In a chat with Jimmy Fallon via The Tonight Show, Rami Malek opens up about playing Eliot Anderson in Mr. Robot. He notes,

"It blew me away. It was 10 years. It was a seminal part of my life. I mean I never thought I would be a lead in a TV show. That happened and to do it alongside Christian Slater, it's fantastic. We still kept up, we've been friends ever since."

Before Bohemian Rhapsody and Oppenheimer, the Oscar-winning actor played the leading role in Mr. Robot, which earned him critical acclaim. In fact, this was his breakthrough role. He also bagged an Emmy award for this role. Mr. Robot premiered in 2015 and wrapped up in 2019 after four seasons.

When Fallon asked Malek about his trademark hoodie in Mr. Robot, he shared how he had auditioned for a bunch of hoodies until they finalized the one, and turns out it was not even the one he auditioned for. He told,

" Sam Esmail who created the show is an absolute visionary and a perfectionist. So I had to be wearing that thing for four seasons so it had to be perfect. So I think I tried on about 55-60 hoodies. They were all black."

Turns out, it was Rami Malek's personal hoodie that he brought around ten years back from Goodwill for 10 bucks that made it to the final cut. He shared,

"I went in to my closet back home and I remembered having this hoodie that I got from Goodwill for 10 bucks from the Goodwill Salvation Army. I did the surreptitious thing of walking through the production office with the hoodie on."

And what followed is no mystery: Rami Malek's personal hoodie became the attire that defined Eliot Anderson throughout the series. After the final season, Malek decided to gift it to Sam Esmail.

Why is Mr. Robot a must-watch?

Now streaming on Netflix, Mr. Robot is a must-watch, and here's why it needs to be on your binge list now. First, the incredible cast performance will keep you hooked till the end. Both Rami Malek and Christian Slater don't simply play their parts; they inhabit their characters.

Moreover, the supporting characters add texture to the story. Portia Doubledy's Angela gives the story its moral pulse. BD Wong's Whiterose, part visionary, part villain, steals every scene.

Secondly, Sam Esmail's direction makes the chaos beautiful. He builds it like a puzzle. Some episodes feel like dreams, others hit like a punch. It's like a wild ride, one that makes you uneasy but gives you thrills as well.

Mr. Robot shifts genres without warning; it's part psychological study, part sci-fi, part political protest. The show questions everything: your data security, your choices, and the sense of truth. Few dramas take that kind of risk and still land the message with precision. Esmail uses the time to explore Elliot's fractured identity. By the season finale, you realize how the show was never just about hacking or revenge or even corporate greed. In short, it's not just dark, it' deeply human.
