The impending arrival of Stranger Things season five is expected to be a landmark event on the horizon of Netflix. It was almost short of a decade ago that Stranger Things first premiered in July 2016, and since then, the storyline of the children in Hawkins is now set to come full circle with the fifth and final season.
In an interesting turn of events, Netflix dropped a teaser video accompanying the release date announcement for the final season. While the release dates made it clear that the fifth and final season will be spread out in three parts, the teaser video presented several shots indicating what's to come, most notably Mike's character arc.
Here's everything that you need to know.
Mike is seen protecting others in the Stranger Things season 5 teaser video
The teaser video for Stranger Things season five offered several clues about what's coming. For starters, Finn Wolfhard's Mike was seen protecting a group of children from dark forces. The identity of the children remained unclear, as did the reason why they found themselves in the situation.
What's interesting, however, is that Mike and the other primary children's characters seem to have finally come full circle on the show. They initially began as terrified children who were often at the mercy of the sinister forces, such as Vecna, the Demogorgon, or other entities from the Upside Down.
It was primarily left to the adult characters, such as Joyce or Hooper, to look after the children. Eventually, as the second and third seasons rolled out, the comparatively elder teenagers of Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve were entrusted with the responsibility of looking after the children.
Owing to the pressures of resisting the dark forces and always being on the lookout for the next threat, Mike and his group of friends seem to be quite mature as compared to their age in Stranger Things.
Finn Wolfhard speaks about Stranger Things
In an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, Wolfhard was asked about the one thing that scared him about Stranger Things. The young actor answered:
"The scary part to me is the pain that comes along with being reminded of the show. Not because I feel pain about what I think of the show, it’s more just like, “Oh wow, I really wish I was with those people right now.”
He further added:
"And part of me saying that it’s never ending is blind optimism and something that I choose to believe in, because it’s just a tentpole part of my life. In a lot of ways, obviously, I want to move on. That’s why I’m doing all this stuff and I’m directing. I obviously have aspirations outside of the show that I really want to do. And for me, it’s more about the connections with people, less about the show."
Stranger Things is exclusively available on Netflix.
