“Expect the unexpected”, these were Steven Knight’s words when he was asked about A Thousand Blows Season 2. His words quickly raised the anticipation about the historical drama featuring the world of crime and boxing. The first season of the series left the viewers with many questions, especially regarding what Hezekiah and Mary’s relationship is going to be.
Henry "Sugar" Goodson's situation at the end of the first season is also not good. It must be noted that there will be a one-year time jump between the two seasons. While discussing A Thousand Blows Season 2, creator Steven Knight opens up that he thinks a gap between the two seasons is better. As the second season will begin after a time jump of one year, Steven Knight says that it gives the “opportunity to move characters along”.
The filming for A Thousand Blows Season 2 did not waste any time. It started soon after the filming for the first season. Hence, there will undoubtedly be a significant connection between the events of the two seasons. Knight discusses that the second season will focus on Hezekiah’s “unfinished business”. Season 1 has not been easy for Hezekiah.

He faced multiple challenges both in his personal and professional lives. Buster Williams’s death took a major toll on his mind. Along with it, he also gets betrayed by Mary. It undoubtedly leaves an impact on him. It will be intriguing to see how he moves forward after facing these challenges. There will be a crucial depiction of “fate and reality” in A Thousand Blows Season 2.
The “low point” that Sugar is hit with will also take time for him to recover from. Steven Knight points out that it is not easy to “bounce back up again in a year” from the point that Sugar has fallen into. Sugar’s mental state is in a position where he is just a breathing corpse. Drinking becomes his go-to activity. He is ruining his life with each passing day.
Steven Knight admits that Sugar’s thought process is in such a state where it “wouldn't concern him” if he fell asleep and did not wake up the next day. A Thousand Blows Season 2 will also have a distinct focus on Alice Diamond. Knight teases that in the second season, she will be “something special”. His words definitely add to the overall intrigue of the upcoming season.
Malachi Kirby will be returning for the role of Hezekiah Moscow in A Thousand Blows Season 2. In the first season, his performance truly enhanced the whole storyline. He brought out Hezekiah's distinct complication. His performance made Hezekiah genuine and authentic.
Besides Malachi Kirby, the other cast members of A Thousand Blows Season 2 are the very talented Stephen Graham. 2025 has truly been Stephen Graham's year. Erin Doherty, James Nelson-Joyce, etc, are also in the cast. The release date for the next season is set for January 9, 2026.
