A24’s Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake begins filming under code name ‘Mama’s Boy’

A post by Brad Caleb Kane on his verified Instagram handle has declared that filming has started for Crystal Lake, the prequel series of the cult horror hit film, Friday The 13th, seemingly under the code name of 'Mama's Boy.' Kane, the showrunner of the series, shared a picture of the clapperboard with the code name on it, and with the information that the particular episode being shot is directed by Michael Lennox, with Maceo Bishop cranking the camera.

Kane also confirmed that filming is officially underway of the highly anticipated prequel, with a caption that read,

“Production Day 1. It’s real, folks.”

Culture Crave, the pop culture news media channel, confirmed that A24's Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, has begun production as 'Mama's Boy.' An X post by the channel also shared the picture of the clapperboard.

A photo from the shooting location of Crystal Lake, which is doing the rounds on social media, showcases the clapboard with the code name Mama's Boy along with the scene and shot number written. The name reportedly references Jason Voorhees’ origin story — a nod to his relationship with his mother, Pamela.

Brad Caleb Kane, known for It: Welcome to Derry and Tokyo Vice, boards the series as the showrunner after Bryan Fuller exited the show. The prequel is confirmed to be an eight-episode series with multiple directors and A24 studio producing it for Peacock.

Crystal Lake comes with an ensemble cast that includes Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, according to Bloody Disgusting. Pamela is the mother who sacrifices her singing career to take care of a child with special needs. When she loses her son, her life takes a dark turn.
