Prime Video thriller Absentia has been the talk of the town ever since the Stana Katic show found a spot on Netflix and is currently in one of the top spots with commendable streaming numbers. The series had its Prime Video premiere back in 2017 and, despite good scores on IMDb, has remained an underrated hidden gem for a long time.

Jack helps Emily in Absentia Season 1 Episode 7
After Emily gets shot at the bar while questioning the escort (who used to see her brother Jack) in Absentia Season 1 Episode 6, she manages to escape and reaches the place where her mother had been buried. As seen in the closing scenes, Emily calls her brother and asks for help.
Absentia Season 1 Episode 7 opens with Emily gaining consciousness in an unknown motel room. Jack saved Emily's life by carrying out surgery on her to remove the bullet that she had been hit by at the pub.
As it appears, Jack is innocent and had nothing to do with all the murders. Moreover, he was away from everyone as he was attending rehab to treat his alcohol situation. It is at this point that Emily hands over the pacemaker she retrieved from the buried skeleton to Jack and asks him to trace the deceased's origin. It is eventually learned that the dead body was that of Barrett House's (an orphanage where Emily had spent her childhood days) administrator, Dr. Lu Fan Shen.
Emily uncovers a harrowing truth about Dr. Lu Fan Shen in Absentia Season 1 Episode 7
After learning about Dr. Lu Fan Shen, Emily pays a visit to his brother Erik in Chinatown. She then gets to know a disturbing truth about Dr. Shen's controversial research, which eventually led to the latter's termination from MIT.
It is revealed in Absentia S ason 1 Episode 7 that Dr. Shen was involved in some kind of behavioral experimentation on the children at the orphanage. After Emily gets access to Dr. Shen's audio cassettes as well as research files at the storage facility, she learns that the nature of the experiments was gruesome - the subjects were even forced to enter a water tank.
Emily gets nabbed but manages to escape, while Jack gets arrested
As Emily gets close to learning more about Shen's disturbing research work, she gets ambushed from behind while inside the storage facility. The next thing she hears after coming back to her senses is two men engaging in a heated argument over the bounty that Emily had on her.
However, she manages to escape after the van has an accident, leading to chaos. Amidst all the conundrums, Emily flees the scene by driving away in someone else's car. She returns to the storage facility to listen to the rest of the recording, and it is at this point that the name Charles comes up. It sounds familiar to Emily as she suddenly recalls that she got into a fight with someone of the same name when she was a child.
On the other hand, Jack gets arrested at an Alcoholics’ club meeting with anonymous people after Detective Gibbs learns that the former had clear connections to Sevarov’s club and the hookers. Absentia Season 1 Episode 7 ends on a cliffhanger with Nick visiting Alice’s sister’s residence, where he finds that someone has broken into the house.
Nick goes inside but finds no one, except that the infiltrator had ravaged everything. In a surprising turn of events, Nick finds a mobile phone and a mysterious video of Emily on it, where we see her saying that she is not dead - Flynn will soon be with her once again.
Absentia Season 1 Episode 7 clearly left major questions about Charles' identity and his involvement with all the abductions and disappearances. The episode kept up the usual tone of suspense with twists and action, but it also kept drama alive with Flynn's emotional outburst. The way he gets involved in a fight with kids from his neighborhood portrays his inner turmoil following his mother's reappearance after so many years.
