Absentia is Prime Video's thriller series, which ran for three seasons, from 2017 to 2020. The show follows Emily, an FBI special agent who disappears while hunting a serial killer and is declared dead. However, she returns years later only to discover that her husband Nick has married another woman named Alice, who is now parenting her son, Flynn.

Absentia Season 3 saw Alice's tragic death and Emily and Nick's efforts to take down the underground organ harvesting ring and expose Meridian, the European criminal organization behind it. While Nick manages to gain intel on Meridian, thanks to his trusted source Kai, some men tail and abduct him. Meanwhile, Kai is also in danger and Emily learns that the men are after the highly classified files, which contain solid evidence about the organization's shady dealings and Project Jericho. Elsewhere, the former FBI agent also learns that there is a mole in the organization who is feeding intel to Meridian.

In the climax of Absentia, Emily had some much-needed help from Nick's informant Kai, the woman who was being tailed by Meridian, and Cal, who had a secretive past with the criminal organization. While Kai manages to hand over the important files to Emily, she dies in the process. On the other hand, Emily discovers that Meridian has hired a trained killer named Dawkins to go after Nick and her family.

After Emily and Cal get intel that Nick is likely being held in Berlin, they head to rescue him. However, Emily gets suspicious of her ally and believes that he is the mole. As she cuts all ties with him, she finally finds Nick, who staged a brief distraction and escaped from his captivity. While Emily wants Nick to head back home, he is adamant about taking down the criminal organization and stopping Project Jericho, aimed at destroying many people's lives.

Elsewhere, Dawkins finds Emily and Nick's son, Flynn, who was living in a safehouse with his grandfather, Warren. While the trained killer launches himself at Emily's family in the Absentia Season 3 finale, Flynn manages to take him down with his impressive archery skills. After the couple realizes that their son's safety is in danger, they plan a house fire and pretend that Nick and Flynn both perished in the disaster. As their fake funeral attracts media attention, Emily is assured that her family is safe and she begins her operation to take down Meridian.

Absentia Season 3 ending explained: Emily unmasks Brigitte and the harrowing conspiracy

As Emily begins her takedown in the Absentia Season 3 finale, she sees Brigitte, the owner of the Border Outreach, on the news. The former FBI agent immediately remembers that she had crossed paths with Brigitte during an international mission. Kai's files help Emily to link Brigitte with Elliot, the Meridian head and she also learns about her pharmaceutical company, Kerlan Pharma.

Kai's files help Emily decipher the dirty workings of Brigitte's charity company and her connection with the illegal organization. As it turns out, Project Jericho is involved in an illegal experiment of making a hazardous viral bioagent and its cure. They aim to create a life-threatening disease and its cure to make loads of money. Additionally, Brigitte's charity company supplies them with refugees for human testing and to create harmful bioagents. Kai's files prove that Brigitte's Border Outreach programme is just a facade to provide lab rats for the criminal organization's harrowing experiment.

In the Absentia Season 3 ending, Emily exposes Brigitte's true nature by releasing Kai's Meridian files to the public. Once Brigitte's true nature comes out in front of the world, she is arrested and the authorities put a definitive end to the project.

With all the loose threads tied, the Absentia Season 3 finale finally revealed the shocking identity of the mole. While Emily initially suspects Cal because of his past with the organization, he was not the traitor. In fact, Thompson and Julianne even link Foster Webb to the crime, who was found dead in a hotel room, with many files proving his identity as the mole.

However, much to Emily's surprise, the real mole was none other than Julianne. While Dawkin's phone records hinted that the mole is likely an agent from Boston, Emily caught Julianne while she was trying to delete Kai's files and Meridian data from the FBI's database. In the final moments, Emily catches Julianne and Jericho on a rooftop. While she kills Jericho on the spot, she spares Julianne so that she can spend the rest of her life in prison.

The real identity of the mole also paved the way for Emily and Cal to act out on their romantic feelings for one another. Absentia concluded with an epilogue that took place six months after the Meridian operation. While Emily is working as a spy, she invites Cal to her hotel room, hinting that the couple finally pursued a romantic relationship in the end.
