Acapulco is a comedy series created by Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros, and Jason Shuman. Based on a 2017 Mexican-American comedy movie, the show features Eugenio Derbez, Jessica Collins, Camila Perez, and others.
The show is about Maximo Gallardo Ramos (Derbez), who is a successful businessman living in Malibu. However, the show alternates between the present-day and the past and showcases Maximo’s rags-to-riches story.
Acapulco focuses on how Maximo rose from being a pool boy to a manager, and eventually becoming the head of the Las Colinas resort, which he always dreamt of owning. Full of beautiful cinematography and well-developed character-arcs, the series has three seasons till now and a fourth season will soon premiere on July 23, 2025.
Therefore, here is a quick recap of the show's Season 3 finale and how it sets up the show for Acapulco Season 4.
Acapulco Season 3 Finale had a lot of twists and turns

For viewers who need a quick recap about Acapulco season 3 as they begin to watch season 4, they might remember that the season 3 finale was dramatic and thrilling. The episode focuses on how young Maximo spills the secrets from the Las Colinas guest-book to Alejandro Vera and this leads to Diane and Don Pablo being fired in 1985. However, Maximo becomes the new Assistant Head and then becomes the Head of Operations.
While Maximo’s actions led him to get his dream job, he also lost many connections. The show’s creators, Sam Laybourne and Austin Winsberg mentions in an interview with The Wrap that “we liked Maximo so much we didn’t want him to go full ‘Breaking Bad’. Whatever mistakes he’s making are done in a way that he’s not anticipating the outcomes.”
Further, Maximo and Julia’s relationship also turns sour as Julia wonders about the things that Maximo is doing to get ahead in his career. When Julia tells Maximo that he can’t work for Alejandro and Maximo still takes up the role that Alejandro offers him, the relationship between Maximo and Julia becomes tense.
On the other hand, present-day Maximo and Hugo visit his estranged daughter Paloma to attempt to reconnect. When Maximo goes back to Las Colinas, he is unhappy with how the property is turning out and he meets Julia once again and asks her out.
The two begin to reconnect again and Julia gets annoyed when Maximo gets distracted by work, again. However, the next day, Maximo breaks the news to Julia that he has bought Las Colinas and wants to run it alongside her. Therefore, the show ends on the perfect note to set it up for the 4th season.
Acapulco Season 3 had a well-developed emotional arc

Viewers see a strong emotional arc in the 3rd season of the show as Maximo’s journey feels complete and earned. However, the makers of the show were not sure if the series will get a season 4 and the show therefore decided to strike a balance. Acapulco had to ensure that Maximo does not forget what’s important, while also going making him ecstatic over his success. Creator Austin Winsberg states in an interview with The Wrap, “In terms of going forward, were also careful…to thread in case we don’t get to Season 4. We wanted it to be close-ended enough…while also leaving a lot of doors open for more stories…”
And as the makers of the show stated, the show's Season 4 has a lot of room for interesting stories to be developed. The season will focus on Las Colina getting renovated and that will bring in some fresh stories and material. Questions like, will Maximo and Julia become more than friends? Will Maximo step away from business? And other such questions abound with the confirmation of Acapulco Season 4.
