Months after its premiere, Adolescence has once again entered the global Top 10 shows chart on Netflix. The British drama has proven to be a massive success for the streamer and is counted among the most popular shows of the year.

The psychological crime drama earned 3.6 million views between September 15 and 21, and attained the number 5 spot on the most-watched English-language show on the platform.

The renewed interest in the series is attributed to its recent Emmy wins, as the show swept several awards at the ceremony that took place on September 14, 2025. More about the viewership of Adolescence in the next section.

Adolescence originally premiered on Netflix on March 13, 2025, and remained the number one show on the platform for the subsequent few weeks. In July, Netflix announced that it was its most-watched show in the first half of the year.

The series is also the second most-watched English-language series in the history of the streamer, with 142.6 million overall views. It is only behind Wednesday Season 1, which boasts 252.1 million views.

Adolescence revolves around Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy, who is arrested for the murder of his classmate. The show features four episodes, and each has been shot in one take. The show provides a deep insight into Jamie’s psyche, while also delving into his family and showcasing the investigation into the case. The realistic portrayal of the events in the show made it a certified hit among the audience.

The show stars Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, Stephen Graham as Eddie Miller, Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller, Amélie Pease as Lisa Miller, Faye Marsay as DS Misha Frank, Ashley Walters as DI Luke Bascombe, and Erin Doherty as Briony Ariston. The cast’s stellar performances are another reason why the show keeps gaining views on the platform.

During this year’s Emmy Awards, Adolescence earned eight trophies, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Stephen Graham.

Additionally, Owen Cooper won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, becoming the youngest male winner in Emmy history. Erin Doherty also received an award for her portrayal of forensic psychologist Briony Ariston.

The series has been written and created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, and directed by Philip Barantini. Talking about why he chose to tell this story, Graham said in an official statement to Tudum:

“We could have made a drama about gangs and knife crime, or about a kid whose mother is an alcoholic or whose father is a violent abuser. Instead, we wanted you to look at this family and think, ‘My God. This could be happening to us!’ And what’s happening here is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare.”

All episodes of Adolescence are streaming on Netflix.
