It's time to say goodbye to another classic Springfield resident, as The Simpsons has killed off Alice Glick, the elderly organist at the First Church of Springfield. Alice Glick was a minor character in the popular animated sitcom and a Springfield resident since Season 2.
Introduced in Season 2 Episode "Three Men and a Comic Book,'' Alice Glick was initially voiced by the late Cloris Leachman. The Simpsons staple Tress MacNeille eventually took on the role, in addition to her many recurring roles like Lunchlady Doris, Dolph, Lindsey Naegle and Booberella.
Alice Glick's death was confirmed in Season 37 Episode 6 Bart 'N' Frink, which aired on November 16. While Glick was a minor recurring character in the sitcom, she was a classic Springfield resident who had been a part of the community, especially the Church, for a long time. Many of the Church congregation have enjoyed her music for three decades and her musical presence will be missed in future church services.
More on Alice Glick's death in The Simpsons in our story.
The Simpsons bids goodbye to Alice Glick
Alice Glick died during the Church congregation, while Reverend Lovejoy was in the middle of one of his classic sermons. Suddenly, a large bang from Alice's instrument shocked him and the residents attending the sermon. While they initially assumed that Alice was passionate and excited about the sermon, they soon discovered her lifeless body flayed on the piano. It was confirmed that a classic Springfield resident had died.
Alice Glick's death in The Simpsons was certainly shocking, not only to fans but also to the congregation. The episode then pivoted to Springfield Elementary, where Principal Skinner introduced the dead lady to the students as "a dead lady you've never met."
It was later revealed that Alice left all her money to fund music programs in schools, confirming that her passion and love for music ran deep. She always recognized talent and this kind gesture certainly immortalized her in the hearts of every Springfield resident.
This is not the first time The Simpsons has killed off Alice Glick
Seasoned The Simpsons fans are still wondering if Alice Glick is actually dead. Executive producer Tim Long confirmed this news with TV Line:
"In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yep she's dead as a doornail.''
This confusion is justified as the sitcom has killed off Alice's character previously. Alice Glick's first death was recorded in Season 23 Episode "Replaceable You", where she was killed off by a rogue robot seal. However, this death was certainly confusing, as the character continued to appear in future seasons and episodes both as a living woman and a ghost.
It was clear that The Simpsons was likely using her popularity but fans have questioned about her character's fate ever since she was 'killed off'' in Season 23. However, now with Long's official statement, it is confirmed that Alice Glick has bid goodbye to the sitcom for good. Her music and hilarious encounters with Bart will be forever missed in future episodes.
