After a melodramatic K-drama, Bo-gum is all set to star in a new character in JTBC's Good Boy. An action K-drama, Good Boy, will be a first for the actor, who is known for his emotional performances in dramas like Encounter, Reply 1988, and Record of Youth.

Everything to know about When Life Gives You Tangerines star Park Bo-gum's upcoming K-drama

After his swoonworthy performance in Netflix's latest slice-of-life K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, Bo-gum is all set to shine again in an action K-drama, which would be a first for the actor.

His upcoming comedy action K-drama Good Boy is written by Lee Dae-il and directed by Shim Na-yeon. It is set to release on JTBC on May 31, 2025, and will air episodes weekly on Saturday and Sunday. It will also be available to stream on Netflix, Disney+, and TVING in South Korea. International audiences can catch the K-drama on Prime Video.

Good Boy follows the story of former Olympic medalists recruited into law enforcement officers under a special programme.

In Good Boy, Bo-gum will play the role of Yoon Dong-ju, who entered a career in boxing after having a violent youth. An Olympic gold medalist, things will take a turn for the worse when Dong-ju is unfairly expelled from his boxing team and is recruited as a police officer under a special programme.

In addition to Dong-ju, many more Olympic medalists will join this special programme due to various reasons, such as financial instability and short athletic careers. One such other medalist, Ji Han-na, will be played by Who Are You: School 2015 fame actress Kim So-hyun.

Han-na, a shooting prodigy, was forced to retire early from her career after misunderstandings that affected her mental health. Like Dong-ju, she will also be recruited for this special programme.

In addition to Bo-gum and So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok will also play supporting characters.


What has Park Bo-gum said about Good Boy?

Good Boy might be a turning point in Bo-gum's career, as he has always played melodramatic roles like his recent hit When Life Gives You Tangerines.

It was also reported that all actors underwent rigorous physical training to prepare for their roles and learned the basics of their characters' respective sports.

Talking to Soompi, Bo-gum described his character as 'bulldozer', adding:

“Driven by a fierce sense of justice, he doesn’t give anyone a chance to run and takes down corruption without hesitation.”

Talking about Good Boy, he added:

“From the hot summer to the chilly winter, every episode features action scenes. I’m excited for every scene we’ve created with the best staff, including sharp direction, dynamic filming, and striking lighting.”

After When Life Gives You Tangerines, fans are eagerly waiting for Bo-gum to grace their screens once more, and his new avatar will surely be well-liked by them.
