The Conjuring: Last Rites will conclude the horror movie franchise and mark the final haunting for paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga).
Based on the paranormal investigations of the real-life couple, the Warrens have had many adventures and exorcisms in the three The Conjuring movies and their many spin-offs.
The upcoming movie will conclude the chapter by taking the Warrens to Pennsylvania to help the Smurl family escape a demonic infestation.
While Wilson and Farmiga will step down as the paranormal investigators, The Conjuring universe will expand with a spin-off TV series, announced in June 2024.
Although there is no news about the plot of the spin-off series, the first images for The Conjuring: Last Rites suggest that the TV show might expand on the couple's formative years as demonologists.
More on The Conjuring: Last Rites spin-off series in our story.
I think The Conjuring: Last Rites' first images hint at the planned spin-off series

While The Conjuring: Last Rites will be Wilson and Farmiga's last outing as Ed and Lorraine Warren, Warner Bros is not done with the horror movie franchise.
In June 2024, Casey Bloys, the CEO of HBO and Max content, announced that they are planning to adapt The Conjuring franchise into a TV series:
''There are other properties like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that weāre developing into a series...''
While details about this spin-off TV show are scarce, it was reported that it will continue Ed and Lorraine's adventures as world-renowned demonologists as they continue to help families possessed by demons and ghosts.
However, The Conjuring: Last Rites' first images feature younger versions of Ed and Lorraine, played by Madison Lawlor and Orion Smith. The images hint that Lawlor and Smith might step into the shoes of the paranormal couple for the spin-off series.
While every The Conjuring movie has focused on a unique (and real) case from the couple's investigative years, very little is known about their youth or how they ended up in this profession.
I think a TV series will be the best way to feature the couple's origin story as the renowned demonologists we know them today.
While the Warrens eventually solved famous cases like the Perrons and the Amityville house, it would be interesting to see their formative years of energy-seeking, and the first images suggest that.
The Conjuring: Last Rites will be Wilson and Farmiga's final haunting
Wilson and Farmiga have played the famous Warren couple in The Conjuring universe since 2013. The actors have brought to life the paranormal couples' many famous hauntings, which will be concluded in The Conjuring: Last Rites.
While The Conjuring universe will continue with the spin-off TV series, the upcoming movie will mark Wilson and Farmiga's final haunting.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the actors let their feelings be known on closing a momentous chapter of their careers. Wilson is still in disbelief as he said:
"Oh my God, it's all over..."There's only so many times you can say, 'This is the worst case we've ever had!'"
Farmiga added:
"My rosary literally busted apart. The beads were like, 'Girl, we're out of here!' I think we've done as much as we can do for this."
Talking about the Warrens' on-screen marriage, Farmiga discussed:
"That's just the absolutely best arranged marriage in the history of arranged marriages,"
While The Conjuring movie franchise is the last place you'd expect a romance, Wilson and Farmiga aptly portrayed the highs and lows of a real marriage on-screen, while performing many exorcisms.
It will be interesting to see how this chemistry will be translated and adapted into the spin-off series.
