Invasion is a sci-fi series created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil. Featuring Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Billy Barratt, and others, the series presents a world where aliens are visiting the Earth and therefore threaten humanity’s existence.

Amidst all this, the show focuses on a group of people across the globe, who try to survive and face hardships and struggles. The series has three seasons and premiered on Apple TV+ on October 22, 2021. The show’s third season released recently on August 22, 2025 and Invasion has been praised for its diverse cast, music, and acting.

Actor Billy Barratt plays the role of Caspar Morrow in the show, who is a nerdy and soulful kid and suffers from epilepsy. Caspar comes from a lower-class family and lives in the outskirts of London. He is one of the characters in the show who is affected by the alien invasion and in Season 2, he is shown to have died.

Due to the vast and ambitious nature of Invasion, many characters are often stretched thin and do not get the time to get fully fleshed out. One of those characters is Billy Barratt’s Caspar Monrow, who is shown to have died in a shocking twist in Season 2. Caspar and Trevante are about to discover the mothership’s true motivations but the show kills off Caspar.

Critics have noted that the death was ill-timed as Caspar had already been underused in Season 2. He spent most of his time in a coma on one world and a vague source of inspiration for Mitsuki in another. However, Jamila and Trevante have to stick together, now that Caspar is gone. Ultimately, Caspar and Trevante are seen as heroes as they were able to destroy the mothership.

On the other hand, Jamila is also another teenager who is underutilized in Invasion. In Season 3 Episode 1, Jamila finally gets a chance to shine as she deals with grief and determination after Caspar’s death. She also doubts about Caspar’s death and hopes that he is alive somewhere. Therefore, Caspar feels present in the show.

Even though Caspar has not miraculously survived in Season 3 till now, there is a lingering presence, which feels even more meaningful than when he was in the show. His death has been a catalyst for Trevante and Jamila to reflect.

While Jamile lost the boy she loved, Trevante loses an able partner. Therefore, both of them are bonded by loss and pain. Caspar’s death therefore finally gives Invasion the gravitas that it needed to propel forward. The character might not be present in the flesh, but Caspar binds the show in spirit.

In an interview with Game Rant, Billy Barratt talks about his character Caspar in Season 2. On being asked about his character, he states,

“The most challenging part is that he's kind of isolated from everyone. And also the fact that he gets bullied for something that he can't control. He has this condition, epilepsy… But, I mean, that's what gives it [the show] its tension or whatever, I suppose. I think it hit me so hard because I connect with Casper quite well… When I saw that he [Casper] was getting bullied and all these kids were constantly coming at him, that really hit me and it affected me."

The show is available on Apple TV+
