With the last season of The Boys approaching, fans were shocked by the unexpected and, at the same time, slightly chilling holiday surprise. Vought International dropped a meta-style promotional post in the form of a holiday card with Homelander in it, the most feared and controversial Supe of the show.

The card appears welcoming and celebratory on the surface, although it serves as a subtextual reminder that Vought is powerful and in control, and that kind of power is always cloaked in pretentious good wishes. By posting this just before The Boys Season 5, Vought blends the fictional world of the show with the real world of marketing, inviting the fans to re-enter the dark, satirical message of the series.

Vought’s Homelander Greeting

Fans are already eagerly waiting for The Boys Season 5, and in the meantime, Vought International has returned with another round of its usual propaganda, but this time it was a holiday card with the smiling face of Homelander on it. The card was circulated through social media, in which the official sites wrote that Homelander had forgiven a lucky Starlighter who had posted an anti-Homelander meme on the occasion of Thanksgiving. It went as far as to threaten the fan with the possibility of being convicted of other treasonous offenses, making Vought still as dark-humored as ever.

Making the image of Homelander a festive greeting, Vought combines the holiday spirit with its standard tone of authoritarianism. At first glance, the card resembles an ordinary corporate holiday card, but behind it, it drives the concept of Homelander as a hero that one should never disrespect. As The Boys Season 5 is set to release in 2026, this move is a bit less of a mere celebration and more of a reminder that Homelander is ubiquitous, strong, and undoubtedly still observant.

Marketing as satire

Even though the holiday card from Vought was unexpected, these stunts are not new. The company has, over the years, shared false official messages to make The Boys world seem more authentic. The creators have been utilizing Vought’s social media to release in-universe updates, propaganda, and announcements since Season 3, including wishes for patriotic holidays, fake news, and even parody NFTs starring Homelander.

Vought intelligently creates the perception of a seamless boundary between reality and fiction by approaching marketing material as though it were part of the show. It generates hype for the forthcoming The Boys Season 5 as well as a joke on celebrity obsession, corporate media, and influential companies that distort the truth. To the audience, a mere holiday card is no longer only for promotional purposes but rather a component of the narrative, demonstrating how invasive and controlling Vought's presence is in this world.

What this means for The Boys Season 5

This holiday card, which comes out just when the anticipation for The Boys Season 5 is at its peak, is not accidental in any way. It acts as both an advertisement and a tease: the main antagonist of the show, Homelander, remains in the spotlight. Vought still promotes him as our favorite anti-hero, even though long-time fans have become well aware of the truths of his violent past. For us, the card is not as festive as it appears; rather, it is a cold reminder of how strong and shielded Homelander still remains.

Combining the card with real-world holiday cheer, Vought actually manages to cleverly play with sentiments of coziness and tradition towards the propaganda of a very dangerous hero. The juxtaposition is disturbing: the image of a person who causes so much damage is encircled by the bright and cozy holiday vibes. That confrontation renders the message even darker; there is nothing more terrible than evil camouflaged as something reassuring.

This holiday card is not just a nice promotion as the upcoming The Boys Season 5 approaches. It’s a warning. Vought is still in the story, and Homelander remains at the center of it.
