What does Wendy's closing statement mean in Alien: Earth?
Alien: Earth Season 1 concludes with Wendy's bold statement, which may shape the plot of the upcoming season. The finale ends with Wendy declaring:
"Now we are gonna rule."
Speaking to Decider, creator Noah Hawley said that the kids taking over the world is an empowering moment. He adds:
"You could watch it by saying, ‘Well, damn right. These kids are going to take the Earth because adults are ruining it. So I think there’s something a bit chilling, too, about this moment where you feel them rejecting humanity. ’"
Sydney Chandler, who plays Wendy, describes the ending as:
"A dangerous yet beautiful scenario."
On one hand, while Chandler and Hawley are excited for the upcoming plot, Erana James, who plays Curly, a member of The Lost Boys, seems a bit skeptical about what comes next. Speaking to Decider, James adds that the trauma and the horror that the children went through might not make them efficient leaders. However, she also notes that the power shakeup/disruption was necessary.
Another question that arises is about Wendy's true identity. Even though we know that she's a hybrid with a human's mind and a synthetic body, further details would be revealed in Season 2. Finally, Wendy might plunge out of her identity crisis.
Speaking with TV Insider, Chandler revealed:
"I think she doesn’t know. I think she knows what she doesn’t want to be, and her path is narrowing. Throughout the majority of the rest of the season, she’s trying to figure out what she is."
Alien: Earth- Co-creator and cast on Arthur's fate, Atom Eins' identity, and more
In the finale of Alien: Earth, key questions about identity and survival come to the forefront. For instance, speaking about Atom Eins' true identity is revealed. Turns out Boy Kavalier's trusted right hand isn't a human but a synth, leaving viewers in a whole lot of confusion. In fact, he's the first synth that Boy Kavalier built at only young age, and used it to kill his abusive father. Noah Hawley reveals:
"I don’t know if he was designed to look like his dad or whether he designed someone who looked like the CEO of a corporation, but he was definitely thinking 10 steps ahead in terms of a six-year-old boy’s version of what building an empire looks like.”
Coming back to Wendy, her potential to communicate with Xenomorph can do wonders. But first, she needs to bridge the gap between the Xenomorph and the Eye Midge.
Speaking to TV Insider, Chandler reveals that it would be an interesting plot, and Wendy's connection with the Xenomorph would be helpful. She further says:
"I feel like she wouldn’t want to talk to [the eye], to be honest. While she has this connection (with the Xenomorph), I really wanted to hold on to this idea that there’s still a fear. It’s her and a wild tiger that’s just walked up, and it’s not eating her.”
Meanwhile, Arthur Sylvia's fate takes an unexpected turn. He is back from the dead (sort of) after the eye midge reanimates his body and chooses him as a new host. David Rysdahl, who plays Arthur, notes:
"I love eye midge. I don’t know what we’re going to do with it yet. There are some ideas that are really fun.”
