Get ready, sci-fi fans! The Alien franchise is about to take a giant leap, not into deep space, but right back to Earth. That’s right, FX has officially announced the premiere date for Alien: Earth, and it’s coming to Hulu on August 12 at 8 PM ET. If you're watching internationally, you'll be able to catch it on Disney+ starting August 13.

This series takes a bold new direction, offering a chilling mix of sci-fi, horror, and corporate drama, all set in the familiar but futuristic world of Earth in 2120.

For viewers in the U.K., Europe, and other regions where Disney+ is available, you’ll be able to stream Alien: Earth starting August 13. Time zones might vary, but FX has confirmed a global synchronized launch for maximum impact.

Unlike previous Alien movies that explored the far reaches of space, this new series grounds its horror on our home planet, a first for the franchise.

Set two years before the events of the original 1979 Alien film, Alien: Earth builds the technological and political groundwork for what’s to come.

Since Ridley Scott's Alien (1979), the franchise has blended horror and sci-fi like no other. With sequels, prequels (Prometheus, Alien: Covenant), and spin-offs, it has built an unforgettable universe.

Set in 2120, this series is essentially a prequel to the original movie, filling in the timeline gap and providing backstory on the corporations and technology that play a huge role later on.

Plot breakdown

The story kicks off when a spacecraft called USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth. What was it carrying? Who survived? And more importantly, what else came with it?

At the heart of it all is Wendy, a humanoid robot embedded with real human consciousness. She’s not just a machine; she feels, thinks, and remembers. That makes her both powerful and vulnerable.

In this future, Earth isn’t run by governments. It’s ruled by five giant corporations:

  • Weyland-Yutani (you know them — the OG evil corp)
  • Prodigy (Wendy’s creators)
  • Lynch
  • Dynamic
  • Threshold

Known for their shady experiments and love for profits over people, they’re back and more dangerous than ever.

Led by a tech genius, Prodigy creates hybrids, pushing the limits of life and death.

Not much is known yet, but expect power struggles, betrayal, and some dark secrets.

Played by Sydney Chandler, Wendy is the prototype of a new lifeform, part human, part machine. She’s also the key to humanity’s future… or its destruction.

Wendy teams up with a squad of trained fighters. Together, they face off against unknown horrors, and not everyone will make it out alive.

The show digs into what it means to live forever, and whether we should even try.

The five corporations represent unchecked power. They’ll do anything, sacrifice anyone, for progress and control.

Expect claustrophobic terror, shadowy corridors, and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

FX has dropped a few teaser trailers. They're light on footage but heavy on mood, giving us eerie music, haunting visuals, and just enough hints to raise goosebumps.

Think Blade Runner meets Alien. It’s gritty, stylish, and super creepy.

Setting the stage: Earth in 2120

Humans share Earth with cyborgs (part machine) and synthetics (full robots). It’s a tech-heavy world where the line between man and machine is blurry.

Gone are nations. Cities now belong to corporations, each with its own laws, armies, and secret agendas.

We don’t know what kind of aliens are coming… but FX teases something worse than Xenomorphs. Let that sink in.

When the Maginot Line crashes, it brings more than just metal. Something else, something living, is now on Earth.

This show plants seeds that will grow into the events of the first Alien movie. From tech to company rivalries, everything is connected.

Long-time fans will spot Easter eggs, but newbies can jump in without needing a lore crash course.

Social media is buzzing. Fans are excited to see Weyland-Yutani back, Earth in chaos, and a fresh take on the franchise.

Only time will tell.

Alien: Earth isn’t just another reboot; it’s a bold reimagining of a legendary series. With its Earth-bound setting, hybrid tech, creepy atmosphere, and powerful themes, it might just breathe new life into the franchise. August 12 can’t come soon enough!
