Apple TV's Pluribus is the newest post-apocalyptic thriller show in town that has opened to critical acclaim and praise for the cast and crew and it's unique premise. As it continues to enthrall the audience, series creator Vince Gilligan is breaking down the pilot episode of the show, and a very important scene.
Gilligan and star of the show Rhea Seehorn recalled behind-the-scenes moments from the pilot episode, and a particular scene that took an entire night of shooting. In a BTS video posted by Apple TV, Gilligan says:
"This was scene 46, that we spent a whole night shooting. And we spent the day before rehearsing for the entire day. You're looking through a windshield—except you can't do that because lights and camera equipment and whatnot are going to be reflected in the windshield. And the camera rig that Marshall Adams, our director of photography, created for this thing—it's all these big LED screens and a tow vehicle to pull the pickup truck. So you [Rhea] did such a good job making it look like you’re really driving because you were looking at TV screens."
More details about Pluribus
Known for reshaping television with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Gilligan returns with another morally complex world, this time exploring what it means to lose individuality in the face of collective bliss. The series stars Rhea Seehorn, reuniting with Gilligan after her acclaimed turn as Kim Wexler, marking her most emotionally demanding role yet.
The show's title, Pluribus, draws from the Latin phrase e pluribus unum, meaning “out of many, one” a chillingly apt reflection of the show’s central theme. Just upon its release, the show has received critical acclaim, with fans and critics praising Gilligan's cerebral writing and the show's premise. It revolves around Seehorn starring as Carol Sturka, one of thirteen people in the world who is immune to “the Joining,” a mysterious extraterrestrial virus that has fused the rest of humanity into a serene hive of mind known as the Others.
The cast also features Carlos Manuel Vesga as Manousos, Miriam Shor as Helen, Carol’s manager and secret lover, and Samba Schutte as Koumba Diabaté, another uninfected survivor who chooses indulgence over despair. Peter Bergman appears as Davis Taffler, a U.S. government official seeking answers, while Menik Gooneratne portrays Laxmi, one of the few remaining humans who views Carol with hostility.
As for the crew, Dave Porter, another Breaking Bad alumnus, has worked on the score, with Denise Pizzini designing the series’ haunting visual world. With it's unique premise and Gilligan's direction, it's a show you should definitely watch!
Pluribus is available to stream on Apple TV with new episodes dropping on Fridays through December 26, 2025.
