The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2, Through the Valley, featured one of the most heartbreaking moments of the season - the sudden and brutal death of Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) by Abby (Kaitlyn). The reason? Abby wanted to seek revenge for her father's death, who was killed by Joel in Salt Lake City's Saint Mary's Hospital.

In a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kaitlyn Dever spoke about her experience of playing Abby in The Last of Us Season 2. Speaking about the heartbreaking scene where she tricked Pedro Pascal's character Joel Miller in a chalet, only to brutally stab him to death in front of his adoptive daughter Ellie (Bella Ramsey), she revealed,

"It was all such a blur in the moment that when I did watch it for the first time, it was really sad. I'm like, Oh No, I just killed the love of everyone's lives on TV and I kept on going."

The Last of Us Season 2 star continued,

"It was like an hour, I kept going. The creator of the show said this is supposed to be like an hour-long thing of you just beating him. We're gonna jump through time, that's how long this actually is."

The 28-year-old Emmy-nominated actress has been a part of several projects, including Apple Cider Vinegar, Justified, Dopesick, Booksmart, Good Grief, and Unbelievable. During the show, when Kimmel asked her about how the viewers, mostly the die-hard fans of the show, react to the scene where Abby killed Joel-a pivotal and fan favourite character of the show, Dever replied,

"It's been pretty chill. I thought it's gonna be worse. But people are kinda upset still, obviously."

Dever shared a hilarious tidbit of how some fans back in Australia nodded their head in disappointment after the episode premiered. She continued,

"After that episode premiere, I was getting a lot of looks."

When Kimmel shared some photographs of Kaitlyn Dever from The Last of Us Season 2, Dever revealed that she got a spider bite. She continued,

"Yes, I got a spider bite right before I got to shoot this. I have no idea. I think it happened in my sleep in my home in Los Angeles."

Dever also clarified that she did not get the bite on the sets of The Last of Us, but in her residence in L.A. She also revealed how the editors and the graphics team used VFX to edit the spider zit from her face while filming for the show.

The Last of Us Season 2 finale, titled Convergence, aired on May 25, 2025. The episode ended on a brutal cliffhanger as Abby held Ellie at gunpoint. Abby shouted out of rage and grief at Ellie for killing her friends, Owen and Mel. She repeatedly shouted,

"I let you live."

The viewers heard a gunshot, and the screen went dark. To find out what happens next, the viewers have to wait for The Last of Us Season 3, which might release by the end of 2026 or 2027.
