The Witcher Season 5 is in production, and new set images have made their way online, giving fans a look at the final season's filming. The latest photos were taken at St. David's in South Wales, where the cast and crew were spotted working on what appear to be major outdoor scenes.
According to Redanian Intelligence, this marks one of several key locations being used this season, including other known sites like Trefil Quarry, Frensham Little Pond, and Bourne Woods.
What’s getting attention is the return of familiar characters, the first full look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, and the backdrop of sweeping Welsh landscapes playing host to key events from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. While Season 4 is yet to be released, Netflix is filming Seasons 4 and 5 back-to-back, and these new leaks come from Season 5’s ongoing shoot.
The set photos also reveal details that suggest the final season will pull directly from the books' late-stage storylines—complete with Geralt’s Hansa, Northern army camps, and encounters that involve druids and beekeepers. Here’s a full breakdown of what the images show and what they suggest for the show’s last chapter.
The Witcher's filming returns to South Wales
Filming for The Witcher Season 5 has shifted to South Wales, and the coastal city of St. Davids is now confirmed as one of the locations. According to Redanian Intelligence, this follows earlier shoots in Trefil Quarry, a location the show has used before. St. Davids offers a natural harbor setting and dramatic coastline, making it suitable for sequences involving Nilfgaardian forces and outdoor scenes.
Images from the St. Davids set show a large team of cast and crew, as well as Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) filming near costumed Nilfgaardian soldiers. This suggests scenes set in Nilfgaard territory or involving conflict with the empire.
Earlier reports confirmed that The Witcher team had previously used Welsh settings to film battle-heavy sequences, and that tradition seems to be continuing here. The same sources report that the production has built several major outdoor sets this season, including what’s believed to be a Northern Army camp.
The goal is to bring parts of the final Witcher saga books—especially Tower of the Swallow—to screen with large-scale, realistic backdrops.
Yennefer’s unexpected set appearance raises new questions
Newly leaked set images from St. Davids, South Wales, feature Anya Chalotra on location as Yennefer—marking the first confirmed sighting of her in costume for The Witcher Season 5. While she wasn't shown filming an active scene, her appearance on site alongside Nilfgaardian extras has sparked questions about the direction of her storyline.
Yennefer was seen off-camera, wearing a rain shield between takes, with crew members and actors dressed in black-and-gold Nilfgaardian armor close by. While these extras were not in motion or action, their presence in the same filming zone as Chalotra suggests the scene involves Nilfgaard’s influence or territory.
What’s notable here is that Yennefer hasn’t had recent scenes tied directly to Nilfgaard in past seasons. Her storyline has remained separate from Nilfgaardian politics for some time, which makes this visual setup unusual. There’s no dialogue or scene content revealed in the leaks, but the composition of the cast and location strongly hints at a potential new plot direction or even a restructured timeline.
This is also the first time Yennefer has been seen filming for Season 5, which has otherwise been focused on Geralt’s Hansa arc. Whether her appearance is part of the main timeline, a flashback, or a rewritten path remains unclear, but the combination of setting and uniformed presence indicates a moment of political weight or character confrontation.
New details from set builds and scenes
Several set constructions are visible in the leaked photos. In addition to the army camp and harbor filming at St. Davids, other scenes were shot at Frensham Little Pond in Surrey and Bourne Woods. According to reports, the Frensham location includes beehives and actors in beekeeper costumes—again pointing toward the adaptation of specific chapters from Tower of the Swallow.
A few characters are notably absent from the images. Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia, will not appear in The Witcher Season 5 due to scheduling issues, according to sources cited by Redanian Intelligence. This suggests some adjustments in how the show will portray the events leading into the final arc.
The production schedule confirms that Season 5 began filming in March 2025 and is expected to run through September. Season 4, already filmed, is currently in post-production and set for release in late 2025. Season 5 will mark the end of Netflix’s run with The Witcher main series.
