Cross Season 1 fans have probably noticed the obsession of the so-called "Fanboy Killer." Instead of keeping us in the dark about the killer’s identity, Amazon Prime Video’s Cross gives us a peek at his twisted mind early on.

We come to know that the killer, Ed Ramsey, is obsessed with famous real-life serial killers. He recreates their crimes. He even goes as far as mimicking their final moments. He makes his victims look like them before killing.

The Fanboy Killer admires John Wayne Gacy, the “Killer Clown.” He lured young men to his home with promises of work. But then he used to torture and kill them. In the show, the Fanboy Killer’s scrapbook highlights Gacy, showing his influence on the killer’s methods.

The Fanboy Killer also takes his obsession a step further by recreating the look of Aileen Wuornos. She was the infamous "highway prostitute" killer. Wuornos murdered and robbed seven men. She claimed that she killed them in self-defense after they tried to assault her. In the show, Shannon, the killer’s final intended victim, is made to look just like Wuornos.

Another reference in Cross Season 1 is John Allen Muhammad, known for the D.C. sniper attacks. Muhammad killed 17 people in a series of shootings in 2002, along with his accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo.

Ted Bundy is another serial killer who makes his way into the Cross narrative. Bundy used charm and manipulation to abduct, assault, and kill over 30 women during the 1970s.

Harry Powers is another serial killer who is referenced in Cross Season 1. Powers used personal ads to lure women looking for love. He used to then murder them for their money. In the show, the Fanboy Killer adopts Powers’ alias as part of his criminal activities.

Harvey Glatman used to pose as a photographer to lure women to their deaths. He is another figure mentioned in the show. The Fanboy Killer did not directly reference Glatman in his scrapbook. But the police theorize that he used Glatman’s name as an alias in one of his many dating profiles to trick new victims.

Rodney Alcala is infamous for appearing on the Dating Game while simultaneously being a serial killer. He is also referenced in the show. The Fanboy Killer uses Alcala’s name as an alias to lure potential victims through dating apps.
