All's Fair, the latest legal drama by Ryan Murphy, reached an unexpected turn in episode 4, 'Everybody Dance Now.' In episode 4, the focus shifts from Allura (Kim Kardashian) to Emerald (Niecy Nash), one of the most grounding characters in the show.

While the decadence of All's Fair remains, the glittery drama begins to show cracks. Allura’s dramatic storytelling, complete with whispers of illegally implanted embryos, is sidelined. Emerald’s arc in All's Fair, episode 4, forms the emotional anchor of the episode as she faces the consequences of one unsuspecting choice.

All’s Fair episode 4 recap

The courtroom subplot of Episode 4 in All's Fair intensifies when a client named Cheryl wants to call it quits with her husband. Cheryl and Matty’s marriage fell apart after years of disagreement over having children. Carrington (Sarah Paulson), who represents the husband, claimed that Cheryl once had an abortion, keeping Matt in the dark.

Murphy's writing does not dwell too much on the verdict of the case in All's Fair, Episode 4. When Matty’s girlfriend gets pregnant, he backs out of the battle. However, the damage has already taken place. Women who watched it all unfold are stung by a familiar feeling, especially Emerald, for whom the sting felt especially close to home.

Emerald and her sons have a conversation about her returning to dating life again, to which Emerald responds that she is fine. Later, talking to her friends, Emerald once again emphasizes how she is content with a battery-operated friend. Allura comments that having or dating someone is better than living a lonely life, admitting that no matter what happened with Chase, she is happy that she gave it a shot. Liberty also chimes in, commenting on her 'ring-stage' situation.

Before Emerald attends a mixer event, Allura encourages her to dress up. At the venue, Emerald undergoes a horrific nightmare. What was supposed to be a night of exploration ended up in tragedy for the single mother. A man who appeared interested in her offered to buy her a drink, but then, the drink was manipulated. Emerald was drugged and assaulted.

One of the most compelling acting performances by Niecy Nash features in Episode 4 of All's Fair when she portrays a visibly shaken Emerald. She calls Allura and tells her about the horror she experienced at the event. Emerald immediately contacts the police and undergoes a medical exam, but the results are inconclusive. Soon, Dina and the others come to the hospital to learn that the drugs used in Emerald's drinks could be life-threatening for her.

Emerald rejoins work, putting a lot of effort into bringing her life to normalcy, but her composure soon breaks. She has a breakdown, and at this point, the episode delivers a major twist: The suspect is the son of Conrad Walton. His father's Ponzi schemes were foiled by Dina, which led his company to fall apart.

Dina worries that if this was an act of revenge, chances are he is gonna go further to harm someone. Emerald's sons are furious, but their mother stops them from doing anything.

It is later revealed in All's Fair Episode 4 that the evidence is not enough to make an arrest yet. Later, he informs that the suspect has committed suicide. At the end of episode 4, Dina tries her best to comfort Emerald by showing her how karma played on the man who assaulted her.

However, Emerald does not feel comfort; instead, she feels Dina's encouragement led her to this nightmare. She later asks her sons if they were involved in Walton's suicide. The episode ends with a question: Is all really fair? Can anybody be trusted? Many questions arise in episode 4, but only the next episodes can answer them.
