Amadeus cast and characters: Here's who brought the historical drama miniseries to life

Amadeus vividly brings to life the music and legacy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of history’s most celebrated musical geniuses. The Sky drama series explores the infamous rivalry between the renowned musician and the Italian composer Antonio Salieri. The cast of the drama series includes Will Sharpe, Paul Bettany, Rory Kinnear, Gabrielle Creevy and Jonathan Aris, among others.

Set in the 18th century Vienna, Amadeus, traces the life of Mozart, a 25-year-old prodigious composer. In the new city, he will find his partner in Constanze and gets acquainted with another well-known court composer Antonio Salieri. Salieri’s motives, however, are far more deceitful than they initially appear. The five-part minidrama series explores the many challenges that the young composer will encounter, while trying to establish a name for himself. The series is adapted by Joe Barton from Peter Shaffer’s 1979 stage play.

The synopsis of the series as per Rotten Tomatoes states,

When 25-five-year-old Amadeus Mozart arrives in vibrant 18th-century Vienna, his world collides with two pivotal figures: Constanze Weber, and the court composer, Antonio Salieri.

Amadeus Cast and Characters

Will Sharpe as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Will Sharpe is known for his other successful ventures including The White Lotus Season 2, Giri/Haji, Flowers and Landscapers. Sharpe portrays the role of Mozart, a genius who will rise to become of the more celebrated composers, but he was not without his eccentric ways.

Paul Bettany as Antonio Salieri – Salieri was a proficient composer who harbored deep-seated jealousy toward Mozart. To diminish Mozart’s accomplishments, Salieri deliberately cultivates an acquaintance with him. Paul is also known for Solo: A Star Wars Story, A Beautiful Mind and for playing Vision in MCU, introduced first in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Rory Kinnear as Emperor Joseph II – As a keen lover of music, Joseph II was one of the more well-known rulers from Europe. He was especially celebrated for his support of composers such as Mozart. Rory Kinnear has also appeared in Black Mirror and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Gabrielle Creevy as Constanze Mozart – Constanze was Mozart’s wife. Though their love story was heart-warming, she faced severe scrutiny from her father-law, and the couple also had to navigate through financial problems. Gabrielle Creevy is also known for Casualty and The Guest.

Jonathan Aris as Leopold Mozart – Jonathan Aris plays the role of Mozart’s father, Leopold. Jonathan Aris has previously appeared in other successful projects such as Sherlock, The Night Manager and His Dark Materials. In Amadeus, Leopold is a controlling father, who doesn’t shy away from ill-using his son’s exceptional talents.

Rupert Vansittart as Rosenberg – Rosenberg was a part of the Viennese court, who was critical of Mozart. Rupert Vansittart has also been part of The Diplomat, Andor and Bridgerton.

Lucy Cohu as Cecilia Weber – As Cecilia, Lucy Cohu portrays the role of Constanze’s mother and Mozart’s mother-in-law. Lucy Cohu has also been part of other projects such as Dangerous Liaisons, Becoming Janeand Gosford Park.

Olivia-Mai Barrett as Sophie Weber – Sophie is one of the sisters of Constanze in Amadeus. Olivia-Mai Barrett is also known for Invasion, The Man Who Fell to Earth and Savage Flowers.

Hugh Sachs as Von Strack – Von Strack is one of Mozart’s early supporters. Hugh Sachs is also known for Bridgerton and Benidorm.
