Amazon MGM Studios has solidly announced a follow-up to Road House, and Aldis Hodge will be alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the action-packed follow-up to the 2024 remake. The announcement marks another significant step forward in the growth of the updated version of the legendary 1989 cult movie.

The re-creation of the original Road House features Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter turned bar bouncer who is offered a dangerous security job in the Florida Keys. Gyllenhaal's gritty and charismatic performance helped make the film one of the most streamed in the action category on Prime Video in 2024.

The addition of Aldis Hodge to the cast of the sequel is a smart choice because of his strong screen presence and intensity, as he starred in One Night in Miami, Leverage, and Black Adam.

Following the streaming success of the remake of the Road House, Amazon MGM Studios quickly approved a sequel, and the news of Aldis Hodge joining the cast has gone viral on social media. Hodge is also expected to play a complex character whose loyalty is ambiguous, creating an interesting contrast to Gyllenhaal's role as Dalton. Filming will begin later this year, with Doug Liman returning as director.

Road House (2024) also transformed the Patrick Swayze icon into a new franchise in 2024, with ruthless fight scenes and a sense of emotional redemption underpinning the movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal, as a disciplined and brooding yet morally grounded character of Dalton, received strong praise from audiences, earning him credibility as an action hero. A nominee at the Oscars for his roles in Nightcrawler, Southpaw, and Prisoners, Gyllenhaal brings both physical and psychological depth to his characters.

Meanwhile, Aldis Hodge maintains a high profile with numerous successful appearances in films and television. Hodge, whose versatility has been noted after he appeared in Hidden Figures and Straight Outta Compton in breakout roles, has found himself in the realm of action, drama, and thriller genres that he can switch between. His recent roles in Black Amber and City on a Hill demonstrated his charisma and dominant screen presence, which will make Gyllenhaal's intensity a good match.

The upcoming sequel is expected to raise the stakes by expanding the Road House universe with more villains, heightened emotional tension, and even more intense, explosive fight scenes. According to insiders, the story will explore what happens to Dalton after the events of the first film, as he confronts new enemies and his past demons.

More about Amazon MGM Studios

The sequel to Road House continues Amazon MGM Studios' strategic push to build large-budget franchise stories on its main streaming platform, Prime Video. The original movie was a huge success on the platform, dominating streaming charts upon release and drawing a lot of audience attention thanks to nostalgia and excitement.

Amazon is hoping that the star presence of Jake Gyllenhaal and the rising momentum of Aldis Hodge will help establish Road House as one of its major original action franchises. The sequel will once again be released exclusively on Prime Video, aligning with the studio's overall goal of competing with theatrical releases through a streaming-first approach.
