Bait is an upcoming Amazon Prime series which is scheduled to be released in 2026. No teaser or trailer of the show has been released yet, and thus, there's very limited information available about it. The show will follow a struggling actor, who thought he had finally found the role that would kickstart his career, but instead found himself in an unfortunate situation he never saw coming.

Ahead of its release, Amazon MGM Studios, which is associated with Amazon Prime, announced that the show has been selected to premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

Amazon Prime's Bait by Riz Ahmed will premiere at Sundance Film Festival

Since Bait is a series, and not a film, it has been chosen to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the Episodic category. Traditionally, this category is for independent creators who can submit their television or streaming series. These projects are typically a pilot episode or an entire web series, and are screened at the festival's dedicated episodic program. Amazon MGM Studios announced that the show will premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival via posts on X and Instagram with the caption,

Bait, the new series from Riz Ahmed coming to @primevideo in 2026, has been selected to premiere at the 2026 #SundanceFilmFestival!

Other series premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in the Episodic category are The Screener, FreeLance, Soft Boiled, Worried, Murder 101, and The Oligarch and the Art Dealer. Since not a lot is known about Bait yet, the only cast members confirmed to be starring in the show are Riz Ahmed and Guz Khan. It also marks Riz Ahmed's return to television after his last appearance in Girls, which was released in 2017.

Bait was first given the series order back in 2024, and speaking about creating the show, Riz Ahmed had then said,

"I've wanted to tell this story for a long time. It's personal, bold, and a lot of fun. It feels so good to be writing and creating it now with this incredible team,"

Speaking about the series, Vernon Sanders, head of Amazon MGM Studios had said,

"Riz Ahmed is a gifted writer, actor, and producer, and we have been energized by his passion,"

He added,

"Led by Riz and the hilarious Ben Karlin, and guided by Rola Bauer's Pan-English team, this series is sure to delight our global Prime Video customers and make them laugh."

The show is written by Riz Ahmed, Dipika Guha, Prashanth Venkataramanujam, Karen Joseph Adcock, Azam Mahmood, and Fatima Farheen Mirza. The executive producers on the show are Ahmed, Allie Moore, Ben Karlin, Jake Fuller, and Roopesh Parekh. The production companies behind the show are Jax Media, Left Handed Films, and Amazon MGM Studios.

Not much is known about the show's cast, main premise or the exact date of release. Since the Episodic category premieres will be taking place from January 22, 2026 to February 1, 2026, the show will likely be released on Prime Video soon after. More information will likely be revealed soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
