Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus novels has officially found its Beau Maxwell. According to Deadline, Canadian actor Khobe Clarke has been cast in the role for the first season of the series.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Off Campus is based on Kennedy’s bestselling college romance books, each centered on a different hockey player at the fictional Briar University.
The first season will adapt The Deal and features a cast including Ella Bright as Hannah Wells and Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham. With Louisa Levy as showrunner and filming underway in Vancouver, the series will stream soon on Prime Video.
While the core plot of season one focuses on Hannah and Garrett, Beau Maxwell plays a recurring but meaningful role. Known as Briar’s standout quarterback, Beau is a longtime friend of Dean DiLaurentis, one of the series’ central hockey players.
With Khobe Clarke stepping into this role, viewers will be introduced to a character who connects different circles at Briar: athletes, creatives, and everything in between.
Beau Maxwell: Quarterback and campus connector
In the Off Campus world, Beau Maxwell is not just another background character. He is part of the extended friend group that includes Briar University’s hockey stars—Garrett, Dean, Logan, and Tucker. His presence, although more prominent in the wider series than in the first season’s main romance arc, reflects the broader campus culture portrayed in the books.
Beau is Briar’s quarterback and a history major. His social life is varied and active. He’s close to his best friend, Dean DiLaurentis, shares friendships with other main characters, and is remembered for his easy ability to move between the school’s athletic and creative scenes. He also has a sister, Joanna Maxwell, who is a Broadway performer—an element that emphasizes Beau’s comfort in both sporty and artistic settings.
Though not the romantic lead in The Deal, Beau’s scenes contribute to the show’s depiction of life at Briar University, where students manage academics, friendships, sports, and personal identity. In future seasons, depending on how closely the show follows the novels, his storyline could develop further.
Khobe Clarke: From Calgary to campus life at Briar
Khobe Clarke, who will portray Beau Maxwell, is a Canadian actor from Calgary, Alberta. He began acting during his school years, performing in stage productions such as Sweeney Todd and The Wedding Singer. After graduating from Calgary Academy in 2019, Clarke moved into television and screen roles.
Before Off Campus, Clarke appeared in multiple notable shows. He played Kyle in Yellowjackets, Coop in Firefly Lane, and starred in V.C. Andrews’ Dawn miniseries. He also acted in the Cruel Intentions TV series as Scott, a recruit in a fraternity. Clarke described his work on Firefly Lane as a turning point that gave him confidence in pursuing acting professionally.
His early life outside of acting was equally adventurous. In one notable experience, Clarke and his father spent a month traveling across Mongolia using motorcycles, horses, and camels, without access to technology. This journey, covered by local and national media, was a digital detox that Clarke has credited for shaping his perspective and building resilience.
Preparing for Off Campus: What Clarke brings to the role
Khobe Clarke’s previous roles often explore themes of youth, identity, and relationships: elements that align well with the world of Off Campus. His portrayal of Coop in Firefly Lane, a high school jock with emotional depth, showed his ability to add nuance to characters who might otherwise be seen as typical athletes.
With Beau Maxwell, Clarke takes on a character who is more than just a football player. Beau is socially connected, academically grounded, and emotionally aware. His ties to the sports field and his sister’s Broadway background give layers to the role that Clarke is expected to bring out on screen.
Clarke is also known for preparing extensively for his roles. He often draws on real-life experiences and physical training to connect with the character. This dedication is likely to help him portray Beau’s presence on campus, his relationships with others, and his personality that blends charisma with subtle complexity.
With production underway, Clarke’s portrayal will be one to watch as Off Campus begins streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
