Prue Leith, a judge on The Great American Baking Show, has often voiced her opinion on American baking and cooking as compared to British cooking. She has preferred the latter, but there is one thing that she claims Americans can do better, and it is breakfast. Despite not eating breakfast a lot, she likes how it is done in the Western world.
Previously, she has expressed her discomfort with Americans using too much sugar in their cakes. Prue says that it overpowers the flavor of "almonds or strawberries," etc., that is put in the cake.
This also makes it difficult for the individuals to eat a big slice because it overpowers the flavor. She claims that it is "the biggest mistake they [Americans] make when baking."
However, contrasting her opinion when it comes to American breakfasts, the Great American Baking Show judge says that it is done better. Revealing her opinion to Delish while appearing for the On My Plate episode, Prue said,
"I think, generally, Americans do breakfast better than we do. To eat breakfast in a diner in New York is a great pleasure. And the thing I love about the American breakfast is that I think you make the best Eggs Benedict. Much better than the French, for example."
The Great American Baking Show judge Prue Leith compares American and British breakfasts
Prue from The Great American Baking Show is a critic of American meals, but recently, she said that breakfasts are done better in the States. Combine them with a diner experience, especially in a city like New York, and it adds to the whole charm.
Continuing her statement, she revealed that she is not big on breakfasts, however, and often skips those. It is a perfect time for her to give her stomach some rest. Prue said,
"I don't normally have breakfast. Because I eat too much generally, and I'm not normally hungry in the morning, so it's a good opportunity to just not eat. But if I'm in a hotel and I can't resist it because there's this wonderful buffet, then I'll have yogurt and granola and fruit."
Continuing, she claimed that breakfasts are done in her household when there are a lot of family members. And even though she likes American meals at this time of the day, she usually does a British fry-up. Explaining, the judge said,
"The only time I make breakfast at home is when I have the whole family there, and then I make a good old-fashioned British fry-up. Sausage, bacon, fried bread, mushrooms, eggs, everything that I can lay my hands on."
Later, the Great American Baking Show member expressed her dislike for snacking between meals. She says that it prevents one from enjoying their next meal as it takes the "edge off of your appetite."
