Aimee Lou Wood climbed new heights of stardom with her character in The White Lotus Season 3. She played the sunshine girl, Chelsea, Rick's girlfriend, who suffered a tragic fate in the series finale, a shocking twist for every fan.
Mike White's breakthrough anthology series The White Lotus was set in Thailand in season 3. The central mystery of the premiere episode was solved in the finale, and as Chelsea had predicted, danger did come in threes, and she was fatally shot.
Since Aime Lou Wood's character was a fan favorite, they were disappointed with Chelsea's fate.
Recently, Aime Lou Wood appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and, talking about the fate of her character, said:
''But it's Mike White. And so, you know, she was so like the embodiment of hope. And of course, Mike has to kill hope.''
Chelsea was the only ray of light and hope in Rick's life, who was hell-bent on taking revenge for his father's death, which eventually led to a tragic fate for the couple.
More on Chelsea's death in The White Lotus in our story.
Aimee Lou Wood addressed her character's fate in The White Lotus Season 3
Fans could not stop discussing Chelsea's death after the season finale. While each season of The White Lotus has followed the same format and featured a character's death in the finale, Chelsea's death in season 3 felt like a personal loss to her fans, who have grown to love the character throughout the season.
Aime Lou Wood further discussed with Kimmel how she had envisioned Chelsea's death while reading the script for season 3:
''When I first met Mike and Meredith, the casting director, and everyone, I just knew from the scene...''
She added:
''It was the scene where Chelsea says, "We're going to be together forever, don't you think?'' and Rick said, "Yeah, that's the plan." And she says, "Is it?" And she has this moment. And I thought, "She's dying." Oh, yeah. She's dying. And Mike was like, "I think you may be picking up on something." I was like, "So, I knew the whole time."''
While Mike White had sealed Chelsea's fate long before the shooting for season 3 started, Aime Lou Wood also revealed how the script had a different ending with fake deaths. Since the mystery about which character would die is central to the show, White had many scripts with different endings, even one in which Belinda died.
As Wood reminisced on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Parker Posey and Patrick Schwarzenegger were completely shocked to learn Chelsea's fate in the finale.
How did Aime Lou Wood's Chelsea die in The White Lotus Season 3?
Aime Lou Wood's Chelsea is caught amid the crossfire between her boyfriend, Rick, and Jim Hollinger's bodyguards. While Rick was trying to confront and kill Jim throughout The White Lotus Season 3, as he believed he was responsible for his father's death, he decided to spare his life in the penultimate episode.
However, when Jim shows up in the series finale again, Rick goes after him and shoots him, only to learn that Jim Hollinger was his father.
While Rick is reeling from this information, Jim's bodyguards open fire on the couple, and Chelsea is fatally shot by one of the bodyguards. While Rick picks her up in his arms and tries to get help, he is also shot by the bodyguards, and the finale ends with Rick and Chelsea's bloodied bodies floating in the pond in the hotel's lobby.
