And Just Like That puts the spotlight back on one of Carrie’s long-time obsessions — her high heels. Reminiscent of the Sex and the City episode “A Woman’s Right to Shoes,” the episode features Carrie. She has moved into her Gramercy Park mansion after her explosive Virginia trip.
As the episode features several montages of Carrie stomping around her house in her heels, we are also introduced to Carrie’s basement tenant, Duncan Reeves. He seems to have a problem with Carrie’s moving around — and the click-clack of her heels, to be more specific. Here’s everything that happened in And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 5.
And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 5:
After the Virginia fiasco, Carrie is putting her best foot forward; however, her downstairs neighbour seems to have a problem with her heels. Duncan Reeves, Carrie’s neighbour, is a British-acclaimed historical biographer who spends six months out of the year holed up in the downstairs apartment writing. We first meet him when he’s banging on Carrie’s door to complain about all the click-clacking that seems to be making its way down.

The episode of And Just Like That includes close-up montages of Carrie walking around in her shoes, used as B-roll throughout. However, her downstairs neighbour — a night owl writer who sleeps during the day — does not find her adorable habit so adorable. In response, Carrie stops wearing heels. Of course, that cannot happen, because Carrie Bradshaw wouldn’t be Carrie Bradshaw without her heels.
So instead, Carrie decides to play a warm neighbour and takes over a welcome basket for Duncan — an olive branch of sorts. Duncan is not too happy with this one, and he has something of his own to offer Carrie: an Amazon box with a pair of “nursing home slippers.” In classic Carrie fashion, she rejects his offer by saying:
"I'm allergic"
She most definitely might’ve been allergic to those (ugly) nursing home slippers. Nevertheless, to make Duncan’s life easier, Carrie gets runners and even shouts at her friends when they enter her house to not make noise — none of which helps. A relationship also seems to be developing between the two, which starts out as friendly and professional but might just grow into something else. Duncan is working on Margaret Thatcher’s autobiography, with which he needs Carrie’s help, and Carrie needs some help with historical fiction.
Additionally, Miranda also seems to be struggling on the housing and neighbours front in And Just Like That. She is forced to endure exceedingly loud metal music at all hours of the night. Even after complaining to the neighbour — an elderly man who threatened to chop her up if she didn’t stop disturbing him — Miranda decides to move in with Carrie. They soon find out this is a very bad decision.

Both Miranda and Carrie are used to having their own space and autonomy. Sharing a space is unnatural for both women, resulting in way too many passive-aggressive interactions on And Just Like That. Everything comes to a head when Miranda is working on her computer with her notes and her Coke all over the table. Carrie ends up spilling it, leading to a very important computer and an equally important scarf being destroyed. Thankfully, these two women come to the conclusion that the living situation isn’t working for them, and so Carrie asks Seema to find Miranda somewhere to live.
On the other side of these friendships, Harry tells Charlotte some devastating news before their glamping weekend on And Just Like That. Harry informs Charlotte that he has prostate cancer, and they caught it early — making everything much better for him — but Charlotte is devastated to find this out. Since Harry doesn’t want anyone to know, she keeps this information to herself but decides to make the weekend extremely enjoyable for Harry.
Much to her dismay, all her kids and Harry find no excitement in the weekend and instead spend it on their screens. This leads to Charlotte taking some space and time from her family and going for a walk. Lisa finds and consoles Charlotte even though she doesn’t know what devastates Charlotte. These quiet moments of friendship highlight what has made And Just Like That resonate with many fans.
