Andor is one of the shows talked about right now, as we get closer to the Primetime Emmy Awards 2025, and predictions are being made about which nominations are the most likely to win. The Disney+ series, which serves as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is one of the shows nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series.

The show's first season was released in 2022, and the second season in 2025. The show ended with the second season, but has left a mark with its storytelling, characters, sets, and cinematography. The Guardian, in its article about Emmy 2025 predictions, called Andor the best show of 2025.

Andor has ended, but its effect has not

Andor might have run for just two seasons, but it has told its story. It is the prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and tells us how Cassian Andor became such a crucial member of the Rebel Alliance. In Rogue One, we see Cassian, Jyn Erso, and K2SO steal the plans of the Death Star. Thus, Rogue One, in turn, became the prequel to the first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), where we saw the Death Star being destroyed.

Andor's goal was to show us the exact political scenario of the Galactic Empire before Rogue One, why it was necessary to steal the Death Star plans, and how Cassian went from a thief to an integral member of the Rebel Alliance. The show did that in two seasons and thus is now nominated for fourteen Emmy Awards in 2025.

Besides, it has already won four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-fi Costumes, Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Period Or Fantasy Program (One Hour Or More), Outstanding Picture Editing For A Drama Series, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie.

Thus, the show has deservingly received much praise and success, including The Guardian calling it the best show of 2025, even though there are three months left for the year to end. The Guardian, in their Emmy 2025 predictions, first said that The Pitt and Severance are strong contenders for the Outstanding Drama Series category. But then The Guardian followed that up, saying,

''Still, neither are the best show of the year – that would be Disney+’s Andor, a bafflingly under-discussed comet that somehow slipped through the contraction of the TV business. It is unlikely we will see something like it – politically radical with Disney budget carte blanche – ever again.''

While we don't know if the upcoming 2025 shows will be as good as or better than Andor, we can say that the show's success speaks for itself. We all knew that season two of the show would end with Cassian and K-2SO heading to Kafrene, from where the story of Rogue One begins, but the scene of Bix Caleen in Mina-Rau was surprising, heartbreaking, and painful. Cassian and his son would never get to meet each other. But it is hopeful, as we know that Cassian's legacy will live through his son.

To know if Andor wins the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, you can tune into the ceremony, which will air on September 15, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday on CBS.

Andor is streaming on Disney+.
