Cassian Andor, a robber who turns into a rebel spy, is the subject of the Star Wars television series Andor. The show which is set five years before Rogue One is about the Rebel Alliance's founding and Cassian's choice to join the fight against the Empire.

Compared to the majority of other Star Wars shows, the series has a deeper, more somber tone. The show is renowned for its diverse acting, gripping narrative, and breathtaking cinematography, and Diego Luna returns for his role as Cassian.

In the Star Wars universe, Andor provides a thorough, accurate depiction of rebellion and personal development. Due to production issues, the initial five-season plan was abandoned, according to showrunner Tony Gilroy’s statements in an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.

The tale was kept at a high level throughout by being condensed into two seasons, which guaranteed a more compelling and dramatic storyline.

In contrast to earlier Star Wars shows, Andor explores political unrest, rebellion, and human development in great detail. This offers quite a more responsible and realistic view of the galaxy.

Initially, showrunner Tony Gilroy had a five-season plan to fully explore Cassian’s backstory. However, this plan was later scrapped and Gilroy reportedly shared the reason in an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.

He indicated that the original idea was to dedicate one season to each of the five years leading up to Rogue One. But as the first season progressed, the reality of how long the full series would take became apparent.

Completing five seasons would have required many years. This could have possibly stretched production beyond what was reasonable for both the cast and crew.

According to Gilroy, they began to rethink the structure once they saw the scale and effort needed. This shift allowed them to maintain quality while ensuring the story aligned closely with Rogue One. Gilroy noted that compressing the story made it more impactful and manageable.

Tony Gilroy has a strong reputation in Hollywood for crafting compelling, character-driven thrillers. Aside from co-writing Rogue One, he is best known for Michael Clayton and his contributions to the Bourne franchise and his grounded storytelling style has brought a fresh, sophisticated tone to Andor. This makes it one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the Star Wars universe.
