Andrew Lincoln has a new look in the first trailer for Coldwater

Coldwater is a British television series starring Andrew Lincoln that originally aired from September 14 to September 29, 2025, on ITV. But back in October, Paramount's Showtime acquired the show along with another thriller so that the shows can be made more accessible for non-British viewers. The show follows John and how his life unravels after he moves to a village in Scotland, hoping to run away from something in his past.

Paramount announced that Coldwater will be arriving on the Paramount+ Premium Plan on January 9, 2026, with the first trailer.

The first trailer of the show gives us very little information about what the show really entails, but one can understand that John tries to run away from his troubles and ends up in even more trouble. Paramount+ posted the trailer on Instagram with the caption,

It's all normal until it isn't.

The trailer opens with John saying to someone that he and his wife, Fiona, came to Scotland when they felt like they needed a change. They try to adapt to their new neighborhood and are invited for dinner by their neighbors, but something seems off about the husband, Tommy. John likes Tommy, but Fiona doesn't.

Moreover, someone called Suzie Bissett has recently died, and Fiona finds a newspaper clipping about the news. A body is found in the woods, and John is somehow suddenly involved or knows who killed the man. Tommy knows too and says that he's with John. This gives off the feeling that Tommy might have involved John in something messed up, and John is now feeling guilty.

This trailer makes more sense once you read the show's synopsis, which, according to Paramount Press, states,

In COLDWATER, John (Lincoln) secretly rages at his life as a middle-aged, stay-at-home dad. When his failure to intervene in a violent confrontation in a city playground brings his identity crisis to a head, John moves his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater. On arrival, he is befriended by neighbour Tommy (Bremner), a charming, confident pillar of the community. John is impressed by Tommy.

The trailer shows how John likes Tommy and has a strange sense of trust in him. Even when the two seem to have done something bad, John tries to trust Tommy. The synopsis continues,

"However, he is blissfully unaware that Tommy is harbouring horrifying secrets. When John’s long-repressed rage finally explodes with disastrous results, he finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend. But how long will it take for him to figure out just how dangerous Tommy really is?"

Coldwater stars Andrew Lincoln as John, Eve Myles as Rebecca, Ewen Bremner as Tommy, Indira Varma as Fiona, Lorn Macdonald as Angus, Samuel Bottomley as Cameron, Abigail Lawrie as Moria-Jane, Lois Chimimba as Catriona, Gilly Gilchrist as Nathan, and Jonathan Watson as Williams.

The show is created and written by David Ireland, who has also executive-produced the show along with Chris Fry, Alice Tyler, Lydia Hampson, and Jane Featherstone. Andrew Lincoln and Brian Coffey have produced the show. Lee Haven Jones and Andrew Cumming are the directors. Sister is the production company.

Coldwater has six episodes and is set to premiere on Paramount+ Premium on January 9, 2026.
