Animal Kingdom, the TNT drama series, which follows the Cody criminal family, ran from 2016 to 2022, and ended with Andrew, aka Pope, setting the Cody house on fire and then passing away due to his existing injuries. The only survivors at the end of the show were Joshua and Deran Cody.

The show was popular during its run, but after it was added to Netflix, Animal Kingdom has seen new heights of success, with fans wishing the show would come back in some form. Shawn Hatosy, who played Andrew Cody in Animal Kingdom and is playing Dr. Jack Abbot in The Pitt, is proud of the success the show is seeing again. Talking to TV Insider, Hatosy said that a reboot might just be in the cards.

Animal Kingdom star says a revival isn't completely off the table

Animal Kingdom was developed by Jonathan Lisco, and the show was based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name. Shawn Hatosy played Andrew Cody, who was more popularly known as Pope. At the end of the show, Pope was a character fans were saddened to see die. But his death wasn't confirmed. We never saw a body that confirmed his death. Thus, if the show gets revived, Andrew does have the space to come back.

Speaking to TV Insider about the show's new success and potential return, Hatosy said,

“It’s cool that it has a new life, and maybe we’ll do more,”
“Who knows.”

When asked if he would like to return as well, Hatosy said,

“I would, yeah. I would love to do more,”

Shawn Hatosy isn't the only actor from the show who would love to reprise his role in case the show returns. Jake Weary, who played Deran Cody, the youngest Cody brother in Animal Kingdom, also told TV Insider that he would love to come back if a spin-off is made.

He said,

"I’m such a massive fan of [executive producer] John Wells. And if he contacted me and said, ‘Hey, look, we have a script,’ I would 100% jump to the opportunity to work with him again,”

Weary continued,

“He’s so talented. I really believe in his vision. I’m so happy for him with the success of The Pitt and Shawn [Hatosy]. So, yeah, whether it’s Animal Kingdom or something else, I think that I would. I would love to have the opportunity to work with him again.”

Joshua Cody (played by Finn Cole), who was mostly known as J, was one of the few people who survived till the end of the show. But we see him alone, as he had betrayed his family and had no one by his side.

Weary also told TV Insider about how he and Finn Cole talk about a potential spin-off about their respective characters, saying,

"Finn Cole is the godfather to my daughter, so we’re very close, and we always kind of joke and talk about a Deran and J spinoff series and how cool that would be, as long as it films somewhere in like Mexico, so we can just hang out in Mexico City and see those two have a confrontation,”

There is no confirmation from the creators that the show will return as a spin-off or be revived. But given how much viewers are talking about the show after its release on Netflix and the actors on board to return for a potential revival, Animal Kingdom might just come back.

Other than Hatosy, Weary, and Cole, the show starred Ellen Barkin as Janine Cody, Scott Speedman as Barry Blackwell, and Ben Robson as Craig Cody, among others. The show was produced by Jinny Howe, Andrew Stearn, Terri Murphy, and Llewellyn Wells.

Animal Kingdom is streaming on Netflix.
